Ok now life is grand, with a crop of great movies that are hitting this month like Semi-Pro, 10,000 BC, Doomsday, Shutter and Tyler Perrys, Meet the Browns.  Check out our picks for the newest flicks in the theatres.

21: The true story of the very brightest young minds in the country and how they took Vegas for millions. Ben Campbell is 21 (2008) Postera shy, brilliant M.I.T. student who is needing to pay for school tuition & finds the answers in the cards. He is recruited to join a group of the school's most gifted students that heads to Vegas every weekend armed with fake identities and the know-how to turn the odds at blackjack in their favor. With unorthodox math professor and stats genius Micky Rosa leading the way, they've cracked the code. By counting cards and employing an intricate system of signals, the team can beat the casinos big time. Seduced by the money, the Vegas lifestyle, and by his smart and sexy teammate, Jill Taylor, Ben begins to push the limits. Though counting cards isn't illegal, the stakes are high, and the challenge becomes not only keeping the numbers straight, but staying one step ahead of the casinos' menacing enforcer: Cole Williams.

Superhero Movie (2008): After being bitten by a genetically altered dragonfly, high school loser Rick Riker Superhero Movie (2008) Posterdevelop superhuman abilities like incredible strength and armored skin. Rick decides to use his new powers for good and becomes a costumed crime fighter known as "The Dragonfly." However, standing in the way of his destiny is the villainous Lou Landers. After an experiment gone wrong, Lou develops the power to steal a person's life force and in a dastardly quest for immortality becomes the super-villain, "The Hourglass." With unimaginable strength, unbelievable speed and deeply uncomfortable tights, will the Dragonfly be able to stop the sands of The Hourglass and save the world? More importantly, will we stop laughing long enough to notice?

Drillbit Taylor (2008); Ryan, Wade and Emmit attend their first day at high school and they're pumped... until Drillbit Taylor (2008) Posterthey meet up with Filkins, a school bully who comes off like a little Hannibal Lecter. Before they become completely engulfed in Filkins' reign of terror, they seek out some protection by placing an ad in Soldier of Fortune magazine. Their best response, and the cheapest comes from Drillbit Taylor, a down-on-his luck soldier of fortune who lives a homeless, well he likes to say "home-free" type of existence on the beach. He enrolls them in some physical and mental training.

Tyler Perrys, Meet the Browns: A single mother living in inner city Chicago, Brenda has been struggling for years to make ends meet and keep her three kids off the street. But when she's laid off with no warning, she starts losing Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns (2008) Posterhope for the first time  until a letter arrives announcing the death of a father she's never met. Desperate for any kind of help, Brenda takes her family to Georgia for the funeral. But nothing could have prepared her for the Browns, her father's fun-loving, crass Southern clan. In a small-town world full of long afternoons and country fairs, Brenda struggles to get to know the family she never knew existed and finds a brand new romance that just might change her life.  I gave this feel good movie a B+, and it was worth to see.  A movie that had a premise, had a great vibe and a great family movie.  It was a good feelings movie and Tyler Perry did a great job with the cast and the movie itself.

Shutter: For photographer Ben and his new wife Jane, his new assignment a lucrative fashion shoot in Tokyo--was Shutter (2008) Postersupposed to be a kind of working honeymoon. With this exotic professional opportunity and the limitless possibilities of a new marriage, Ben and Jane arrive in Japan. But as they make their way on a mountain road leading to Mt. Fuji, their new life together comes to, literally, a crashing halt. Their car smashes into a woman standing in the middle of the road, who has materialized out of nowhere. Upon regaining consciousness after the accident, Ben and Jane cannot find any trace of the girl Jane believes she hit with the car. Shaken by the accident and by the girl's disappearance, Ben and Jane arrive in Tokyo, where Ben begins his glamorous assignment. Having worked in Japan before and fluent in the language, Ben is comfortable there, and he eagerly reunites with old friends and colleagues. Jane, a newcomer to the city, feels very much like a stranger in a strange land as she makes tentative, unsettling forays through the city. Ben, meanwhile, has discovered mysterious white blurs eerily evocative of a human form that have materialized on an entire day's work from the expensive photo shoot. I gave Shutter a B for a rating. It was a scary suspense movie and a great flick to see with a good friend.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007): Treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates looks to discover the truth behind the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) Posterby uncovering the mystery within the 18 pages missing from assassin John Wilkes Booth's diary. This was not the exciting second part to the first, but it was not bad as part 2's go.  It was a ok movie, better waiting for video or DVD.  I gave this a B- to a C+ for story and a ok movie.  Great for keeping in the For rainy day pile to watch with popcorn and your friends or family together.  Not a bad movie at all.

Doomsday: The year is 2008, and a pandemic threatens to wipe out the whole of the human race. For many in the United Doomsday (2008) PosterKingdom--the epicenter of the outbreak--the end is nigh, so why bother to keep count? Within days of detection of the Reaper virus millions are infected in Scotland, the killer disease's home turf. Government has no choice but to declare the country a hot zone and quarantine the populace in hopes of containing the Reaper's spread. What was once Scotland is now a forgotten No Man's Land, with the Reaper given free reign to annihilate the population sealed inside. A quarter of a century later, with a new outbreak of the Reaper resurfacing in London, it becomes apparent that the government's best laid plans have gone completely, bloody awry. Department of Domestic Security (DDS) Chief Bill Nelson is summoned to meet with the prime minister and the true power behind his office, Michael Canaris, who reveal satellite photos of Reaper survivors in the hot zone. And survivors must mean there's a cure. Nelson quickly assembles a crack team of specialists to venture into the forsaken land and retrieve the counteragent to the virus. For the tough and efficient commanding officer, Major Eden Sinclair, the assignment represents a disquieting homecoming. Twenty-five years earlier, she had been shoved into one of the last evacuating military choppers and flown to safety--forced to leave her mother behind. Once on the other side of the immediately re-secured border, the squadron is on its own, venturing into a ghoulish terrain of corpse-strewn, forlorn cities. All too soon, however, the crew meets up with a pack of feral survivors, and finds itself unwittingly standing in for the callous government that turned its back years before.

Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who (2008):  Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who (2008) PosterThe imaginative elephant Horton hears a cry for help coming from a tiny speck of dust floating through the air. Suspecting there may be life on that speck and despite a surrounding community which thinks he has lost his mind, Horton is determined to help. It is a great animation with great actors doing the voice-over work.  I gave this movie a B.  A great movie to see with the kids.

Never Back Down: Jake Tyler has recently moved to Orlando, Florida with his family to support his younger brother's Never Back Down (2008) Postershot at a professional tennis career. Jake was a star athlete on the football team at home, but in this new city he is an outsider with a reputation for being a quick tempered brawler. Making an attempt to fit in, at the invitation of a flirtatious classmate, Baja, Jake goes to a party where he is unwittingly pulled into a fight with a bully named Ryan McDonald. While he is defeated and humiliated in the fight, a classmate introduces himself to Jake and tells him about the sport known as Mixed Marshall Arts (MMA). He sees a star in Jake and asks that he meet with his mentor, Jean Roqua. It is immediately apparent to Jake that MMA is not street fighting, but rather an art form he wants to master. Roqua will take Jake under his wing, but it is up to Jake to find the patience, discipline, willingness and reason within him to succeed. For Jake, there is much more at stake than mere victory. His decision will not just settle a score; it will define who he is..  I was waiting for this film and it did not let me down, but it was not exactly what I thought it was.  It had a premise and story and a message that was not loss due to not enough story and too much action.  I gave it a B and it was a good movie and great to see.

College road tripCollege Road Trip
When a young woman decides to travel to choose the perfect college, her overprotective father decides to tag along.  It is great time to get his daughter to go to a college closer to home.   It gets to be a party as this movie is a great movie that message is letting go is hard to do.  It is fun and a great movie for parents to go to with college bound kids.  A wonderful movie that has some great stars, and a great cast that provide the public with a great movie for the home, better in the theatre.  I gave this film a B+, so get the group together and go.

Semi-Pro
Semi-Pro TrailerTo avoid folding, one hit wonder musician Jackie Moon, must make his losing basketball team do the seemingly impossible - win. This was a kind of funny movie, and it was a pick of mine for March but it was not one that I was looking for.  I gave this movie a C- because it was a little entertaining.  This is that movie that is great for DVD when you are bored and it is raining outside.  Not a bad feel good movie.

10,000 BC trailer10,000 BC
A prehistoric epic that follows a young mammoth hunter's journey through uncharted territory to secure the future of his tribe. This was a great film to see with the kids, great premise, love, change and want for more.  It was one that most wanted to see and I loved watching.  Since I left this to the second week of film watching, this was worth waiting for.  Sorry that this was late, I did not get in my reviews, I am on Spring Break and it is off the hook.  So I am coming from seeing the films in other theatres so... Mind the lateness.. Well, I gave this film a B, and it was worth the wait.  It was filled with some great surprises, if you thought you knew what would happen, bang something else happened.  It is a great family movie.  So bring the kids and have a ball.

How She Moves:  Well, this was a movie that had a loud How she movies posterpre-up and then when it hit the theatres it just disappeared.  From some theatres it hit for a week, and was buried.  It never got the exposure in the theatre that most movies do.  If a multiplex had 10 + screens, only one was used for the film, for some places it made it to two.  I do not know why it was buried by theatre owners but it was.  All other movies hit at least 3 or more first week, I had to chase this movie down just to see it.  A gifted student, Raya Green, is forced to leave her prestigious private school and return to her old neighborhood when her parents can no longer afford her tuition, following the tragic death of her sister. Determined to return to her private school, Seaton, Raya endures life at the local high school, suffering the bitterness of her old friend Michelle and her crew and soon finds herself drawn back into a world she knows well, the world of Step dancing. When Raya realizes she could win some serious prize money (and her ticket back to Seaton) at a fierce Step competition, she convinces the charismatic Bishop to let her join his crew, the Jane Street Junta. As she gets caught up in her desire to win and to escape, Raya struggles with the loss of her sister, her parents pressure on her to succeed, and most of all with herself. But here is the review: (Not quite yet)

Step Up 2, the Streets: The follow-up to the 2006 smash hit, Step Up, STEP UP 2 Step Up 2 PosterTHE STREETS follows a rebellious street dancer Andie (Briana Evigan) as she embarks on a journey to fit in at the elite Maryland School of the Arts, where she meets Chase (Robert Hoffman), the school’s hottest dancer. Featuring the directorial debut of Jon M. Chu, STEP UP 2 THE STREETS reunites much of the production team behind the original film, including the cutting-edge hip-hop choreographer Jamal Sims, who is joined this time by choreographers Hi-Hat (“hip-hop’s high diva of dance”) and Dave Scott (“Stomp the Yard”). --© Buena Vista Pictures.  (Not Reviewed).  Ok I was loving this film, Sitting there eating popcorn and loving the dancing, the aerobatics and the try of these young actors.  I love a good dance film, it might not be up there with some of the great dance films, but it has promise.  I grew up in the Break dance era, most of the moves I did, or still do, to the groans of the lil ones. But I taught a new wave and this new wave is good also.  It may not be 'You got served' but it is in its own class, so go and see it, it was worth the money for the ticket.  My nieces will read this and say my Tio can do that, that is old, but this New gen, is no joke either.  I gave it a A- for the dance moves, B for Storyline, and bravo for new actors that did a great job, it did have a couple of actresses that were kinda known but it was great standing on its own.

Jumper Movie pictureJumper: Doug Liman (MR. AND MRS.Jumper poster SMITH) directs this adaptation of Steven Gould's novels about people called "jumpers" who can transport themselves through space and time. This science-fiction adventure stars Jamie Bell (KING KONG), Hayden Christensen (STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH), and Samuel L. Jackson.  It was a good movie, and worth the money paid for.  This was suspense and fun time for all who watched this film.  These Paladin, who hunt the jumpers are some bad mo' fo'es, and it made this film an A- for heat, B- for storyline, which by the way could have been more, but I guess the next movie will answer those questions..

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins: Leading an all-star comedy cast, Martin Lawrence is talk-show sensation RJ Stevens, who left behind his modest Southern upbringing and family name to transform into a self-help guru dispensing his "Team of Welcome Home Roscoe JenkinsMe" philosophy to millions of adoring fans. With a reality-TV-star fiancée and money to burn, there's no piece of the Hollywood dream RJ hasn't achieved. After his parents request that he come home for their 50th wedding anniversary, the TV host packs up his 10-year-old son and diva bride-to-be and heads back to Georgia. It's a chance to prove to his family that he's no longer the awkward kid they relentlessly picked on. At least, that's the plan... But when his crazy, lovable family calls him on his big-city attitude and challenges him at every turn, RJ is forced to take a hard look at the man he's become. He may be a superstar in L.A., but he's just one of the guys in Dry Springs as folks say Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. Now this is a great film filled with fun, jokes and a message I stood in my seat laughing, crying, and loving this film.  I thought about home and what happens each time I come home.  It is always where we see ourselves a bit more harshly, but reality can be a B.. It has no master, and family can bring you to a realization quick fast and in a hurry.  This film did it for me, made me laugh, cry, and had a meaning, a great family film, I gave it a A-, but for substance, I gave it a A.  Make sure this is one of the films that you see over your vacation.

Bordertown: Since 1993, almost 400 women have been murdered in Juarez, Mexico, a factory town that is home to people Bordertownwho toil away at “maquiladoras” (border factories) making cheap consumer goods for the US market. BORDERTOWN tells the story of Lauren Fredricks (Jennifer Lopez), an ambitious newspaper reporter, who has been sent to Juarez by her editor (Martin Sheen) to investigate what has happened to these hundreds of women and how the local police and authorities have been covering up the brutal rapes and murders. Lauren looks up her former colleague (and lover) Alfonso Diaz (Antonio Banderas), who now runs the local paper, and they Bordertownsoon uncover one of the hottest stories of the year when they come across the only known survivor of one of these mysterious attacks. The victim is reluctant to speak, but Lauren convinces her to break the silence; yet the real danger is not the murder, but the larger forces who don’t want the story told. Went directly to DVD, has a great cast and should be seen, so pick it up.

Fool's GoldFools Gold: After starring in the romantic comedy hit HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS, Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson up the action ante for this adventure film. In this action-comedy hybrid, the pair plays a divorced couple who reunite to search for sunken treasure. Andy Tennant (HITCH, SWEET HOME ALABAMA) directsFools Gold movie preview, Click to see a cast that also includes Donald Sutherland, Ewen Bremner, and Ray Winstone. (Not Reviewed)

Definitely, Maybe: Ryan Reynolds stars as Will Hayes, a 30-something Manhattan dad in the midst of a divorce when his 10-Definitely, Maybeyear-old daughter, Maya (Abigail Breslin), starts to question him about his life before marriage. Maya wants to know absolutely everything about how her parents met and fell in love. Will's story begins in 1992, as a young, starry-eyed aspiring politician who moves to New York from Wisconsin in order to work on the presidential campaign. For Maya, Will relives his past as an idealistic young man learning the ins and outs of big Definitely Maybecity politics, and recounts the history of his romantic relationships with three very different women. Will hopelessly attempts a "gentler" version of his story for his daughter and changes the names so Maya has to guess who is the woman her father finally married. Is her mother Will's college sweetheart, the dependable girl next door Emily (Elizabeth Banks)? Is she his longtime best friend and confidante, the apolitical AprilDefinitely, Maybe (Isla Fisher)? Or is she the free-spirited but ambitious journalist Summer (Rachel Weisz)? As Maya puts together the pieces of her dad's romantic puzzle, she begins to understand that love is not so simple or easy. And as Will tells her his tale, Maya helps him to understand that it's definitely never too late to go back...and maybe even possible to find a happy ending.  I gave this a B + rating, it tugs at the heartstrings and made me want to watch it.  Felt like I wanted to go home and do it to my kids. It should have been named, How I met your Mother... But a great story.

The Spiderwick Chronicles: From the beloved best-selling series of books comes “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” a The Spiderwick Chronicles, click to see CBS trailer lead infantasy adventure for the child in all of us. Peculiar things start to happen the moment the Grace family (Jared, his twin brother Simon, sister Mallory and their mom) leave New York and move into the secluded old house owned by their great, great uncle Arthur Spiderwick. The film was unable to explain the strange disappearances and accidents that seem to be happening on a daily basis, the family blames Jared. When he, Simon and Mallory investigate what’s really going on, they uncover the fantastic truth of the Spiderwick estate and the creatures that inhabit it.http://www.cbs2.com/video/?id=58608@kcbs.dayport.com

The Hottie and the Nottie:  Paris Hilton stars as the titular beauty in this romantic comedy. Nate (DODGEBALL's Joel The Hottie and the Nottie movie posterDavid Moore) adores the gorgeous Cristabel (Hilton), but she refuses to leave the side of her less attractive friend, June (Christine Lakin). To get her dates, Nate helps June embark on a life-changing makeover with some surprising results. I do not think I ever walked out of a theatre before but this time I did.  What was amazing was that in a opening week the theatre consisted of me and one other girl (16), her sister refused to see it and sent her in alone.  Told me to watch her but I could not sit through it and after talking to others (Theatre workers) there were very few who did see the movie.  Sorry it took almost a week to review it but I could not find one who could sit thru the movie.  My nieces even left the movie disgusted.  So unfortunately I cannot get a review in even now, but for what was seen, it was given a D-, because we cannot give it a F.  No one saw it through to the end.  Sorry.. Maybe someone will write in one for this flick.  It averaged $76 per screen each night last week, and will probably grow to dismal once on DVD.  That meant that every theatre that showed the movie, lost money showing it.  The workers said most that came to see the movie in NY, did so out of not knowing or blind luck. I am sorry Ms Hilton, but this was not a film, much less one we could recommend.  Even my nieces were mad that I told them to check it out.  But loved Hannah Montana instead. Ms Hilton was seen out celebrating her new movie, but her friends were very camera shy and did not want to be seen with her.

Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus best of both worlds:  The Disney Channel's singing sensation takes Hannah Montanah & Miley Cryrus, Best of Both Worlds Concert.to the stage in this concert film that goes on tour with Hannah Montana, also known as Miley Cyrus. Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus is a 3-D experience, giving fans the feeling that they're right in the middle of thousands of screaming tweens. This was a dream come true for most adolescent girls.  Little girls lined up in all neighborhoods to see this Miley Cyrusone.  Yes. parents were asked to see this limited edition concert in 3d glasses.  Kids loved it, parents enjoyed watching their kids dance in the theatre.  I was loving it, the kids were great and I spent more in one day than I should have.  I never had to go for more popcorn during a movie, but a concert for kids, it was that, going to bathroom breaks for the one who forgot to go before we left.  Most would have tried to kill their kids and themselves but it was a fun time for all.  I give the concert a B+, but the kids gave it a A.

Rambo:  I sat in the theatre just waiting to see a grunting, witless, Sylvester Stallone on set, click to check out the Red Zone Movie Reviews for FebStallone mouthing off some half English, half intelligible nonsense, but I was surprised.  The movie surrounded the happenings in Burma.  I was surprised but kind of Oh No, this is not going to be pretty.  I was amazed that the movie did not start with the usual pc crap in front telling of the civil strife in Burma. Twenty years after the last film in the series, John Rambo (SYLVESTER STALLONE) has retreated to northern Thailand, where he's running a longboat on the Salween River.. It showed the strife, the real strife in Burma, in its raw, unbound way.  If you are not the gore type, stay away for this was filled to the brim with torn bodies, blood and guts all over the place.  It was in Rambo form but this was a darker Rambo than the past.  He was monstrous in proportion but Stallone was still good to go.  I could not eat the popcorn it was brutal, but I was happy to see gore back to fore. I cannot wait to see the Video when it comes out.  I cannot wait to see what was not included if this was what was included in final production. I give the movie a A in gore, B + in substance, bringing to light the struggle in another corner of the world and giving them politicians a light into what can happen when men go crazy and evil.  This is a sleeper that has claws in it, so do not rouse the sleeping tiger ok...

The Eye: Oh, my goodness, I love this saucy Latina. She is the hot commodity in young Hollywood and being pregnant right now is Jessica Alba at the Awards, but Great in her new movie "The Eye", click to see other reviews of Feb Moviesslowing her a bit, but not by much.  She is in a few films that hit right about the right times and she can rest and have the little one in the wake.  Oh I was wanting to see my favorite little Latina bombshell, ok other than JLO, and Angie Martinez (Hot 97), I was sitting in the theatre waiting to see if this was horror or semi-horror.  It was an interesting story that peeled itself slowly and was very imaginative.  I give the director and writers props for the screenplay.  The movie was great and centered around the memories that a donated part could give off.  Some believe in it, and it has happened before where a person who died brutally gave clues somehow to help police find the murderer.  This is not common, nor is it fully proven but can happen, just does not happen, so donors do not stop giving, and receivers do not have second thoughts, most operations go off without hitches.  It will be yours once you receive it, so be happy to have someone who thought enough to give of themselves.  But it was a good movie, I gave it a B+ for a great screenplay and a good movie with great twists and scary moments.  Jessica Alba is one of the hottest stars on the rise.

I am Legend, click to Decembers movie reviewsI am legend, was a great movie and had a nice degree of action and story.  As a third attempt at the franchise, it is a great movie. It was a A- performance. and it was great for the actor and audience.  I am legend posterI cannot wait for the DVD to see what else was left out.  In 'I AM LEGEND', Will Smith joins the ranks of Vincent Price (in 1964's 'THE LAST MAN ON EARTH') and Charlton Heston (in 1971's 'OMEGA MAN') as the star of an adaptation of Richard Matheson's 1954 novel of the same name. Often surprising in its focus on loneliness and loss, this thoughtful, eerie, and restrained sci-fi horror film provides a parade of startling visuals, but never allows special effects to overcome the human element. Smith, in a strong performance very different from his usual persona, is Robert Neville, the lone survivor in a New York City where streets are overgrown and deer gambol among deserted automobiles. Following Will Smith pointing Gunan epidemic, the Earth's population has been turned into an army of nocturnal zombies. Immune to the virus, military scientist Neville searches for a cure in his Washington Square townhouse. Haunted by visions of his family leaving quarantined Manhattan two years prior, he drives through the city with his German Shepherd, Sam, by day and barricades his home from the monsters nightly. But when Anna (Alice Braga)--another immune stranger-finds him, they will have to fight the onslaught twice as hard.  This film was suspense filled and full of surprises.  It was filled with great action and was a suspense thriller.  Make sure to pick this up on video when it comes out. A great date movie. It just came out on Video, special edition has another version: The Alternate Theatrical Version with a controversial ending.  Plus a Bonus Digital copy on the second disc.  It is not available on the one disc version.

Mad Money:  After her husband loses his job, upper-crust housewife Bridget Cardigan (Diane Keaton) is forced to take a job as a janitor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Mo. Spotting a weakness in the bank's security system, Bridget convinces her two new friendsMad Money Nina (Queen Latifah) and Jackie (Katie Holmes) to help her steal a fortune in worn-out bills that have been earmarked for destruction. It was a great movie, with a great cast.  This is a comedy that is fun, bouncy and a feel good movie.  It was a B performance, but with the Queen and Katie Holmes plus Diane Keaton and Ted Danson supporting, it was fun, and quite a family movie.  It may be a bank heist, but the fun is getting there.  Katie, Queen & and Diane did a great job, I liked the movie, it could have been more but it had a twist that was great.  A great family movie, something to talk about afterwards. Katie was good as the ditsy girl, and Latifah was great as the Mom with everything to lose.

Cloverfield:  On the eve of his departure for Japan,Cloverfield movie, headless Statue of Liberty Rob (Michael Stahl-David) sees his going-away party as an opportunity to confess unresolved feelings and tie up loose ends. His agenda Cloverfield (2008) takes an unexpected turn when a jolt shakes the revelers. The crowd quiets down to watch news reports of an earthquake, then rushes to the roof to assess the damage. A fireball explodes on the distant horizon. A power failure follows. Confusion gives way to panic as the partygoers stumble through the blackout and into the streets. Amid the human screams and one inhuman roar, Rob and his friends must traverse a landscape that has changed, overtaken by something otherworldly, terrifying, monstrous monsters and it is a battle to do what must be done. This was first person camera opera, that at times got annoying. It gave a camcorders view. Cloverfield posterIt does a great job of a viewers perspective/camera mans and it is a good movie.  The cameraman, got on my nerve, but hey it gives some real insight into what could happen if...  But it does bring home one thing, do not give your camera to a moron to film things that are important to you. I gave this a B- but it was a good movie, it leaves you wishing for more... I do have one thing to say, it has been a couple of days, but I do have to say that it was kind of reminiscent of Sept 11th for me.  It was kind of hard for me at moments to watch the movie, sometimes wanting to get out of the theatre, but was assured by looking around that I was in the movies.  I saw a lot of that in the several theatres I visited.  Since I am a New Yorker and it is based on NYC, it was kind of hard to watch at first, it got better once I remembered that it was just a movie.  So I do warn New Yorkers, do prepare yourself before watching.  It was kind of ..... I have no words to describe, but it was kind of hard to watch at first.  Once I got over the initial feeling, it was a good movie.  That is why it got a B- for a rating. There is advisories that motion picture assoc. is putting out, it has made several movie goers sick.  So, I was not the only one, not that it was scary, it just is a little jarring being a first person camera action film.  It is on DVD now...

27 Dresses:  Jane is idealistic, romantic and 27 Dresses postercompletely selfless, a perennial bridesmaid whose own happy ending is nowhere in sight. But when younger sister Tess captures the heart of Jane’s boss, with whom she is secretly in love – Jane begins to reexamine her “always-a-bridesmaid never a bride” lifestyle. Katherine Heigl, the girl just married herself during the holidays, and this movie gave her some great tips.  The movie was great and hit home with many women, giving back her comical side.  She was great in this movie.  I gave this a B+, with Katherine as a perpetual bridesmaid, which is hilarious to say the least.

The Bucket List:  Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman The Bucket Listhead up this great feel good movie with two of tinsel towns best.  This movie is a feel good movie and great for the family.  A great thought, two men making a list of things to do before they die, and doing them.  A great hope for all, to live in the moment and do something to make your life worth living.  I gave this movie a B and the audience loved it.

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale; Much like cult-favorites LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale posterand MORTAL KOMBAT, IN THE NAME OF THE KING: A DUNGEON SIEGE TALE is a fantasy-adventure based on a popular video game series, Dungeon Siege. The film follows the simple but heroic and fearless Farmer, portrayed by Jason Statham (THE TRANSPORTER, THE ITALIAN JOB), as he gets caught up in the brink-of-war tensions of King Konraid (Burt Reynolds), his back-stabbing nephew Duke Fallow (Matthew Lillard), and the evil wizard, Gallian (Ray Liotta). The film features similar plot-points to the critically acclaimed THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy (2001-2003), including a sinister beastly army parallel to LOTR’s orcs of Mordor, called the Krugs, responsible for killing members of Farmer’s family and kidnapping his wife, Solana (Claire Forlani). High- adventure follows, as Farmer, and his brother-in-law Bastian (Will Sanderson) and friend Norick (Ron Perlman) pursue the Krugs, which lead them to a vast underground lair of enslaved humans, orchestrated by Gallian, as he seeks to create and rule a hellish underworld with magic and mysticism. A great movie, I was riveted watching this movie.  I wanted to see more, and I was not left wanting and the twists and turns made me want to know more.  This was a great movie because of the way it layed out, slowly peeling like a onion and giving me the information and spooning it to the audience in a non-fantastic way.  I loved it, and gave the movie a A.  Stakeman was a great leading man and the cast was fantastic, a great family movie..

One Missed Call:  When Beth Raymond (Shannyn Sossamon) witnesses the deaths of two friends, she knows there is more at work than just a tragic coincidence; days before they die, both victims hear their terrifying final moments on cellOne Missed Call Poster phones. Though the police think Beth is crazy, detective Jack Andrews (Ed Burns), believes her. Together the pair try to unravel the mystery behind the horrifying messages before their own phone numbers come up. A movie that was suspense filled.  I sat through this movie engaged. It was another movie that was a Asian Movie first.  I liked it, you will too, not too gory, it has moments, but it is a movie to check out though.  The premise is great, of course the black girl dies first to start things off, but it was great to follow and it was laid down correctly.  Things falling into place, and the opportunity for more. It is great date movie, or with the gals/guys out on a Friday-Saturday night. I gave this movie a B for the movie that it is.

Aliens Vs Predator - Requiem PosterAliens Vs Predator - Requiem:  A great next step for the Aliens and Predator film case.  The Aliens Vs Predator Movie did leave all wanting to know what happened next.  Well, this takes up right after that one.  Town Residents (Steven Pasquale, Reiko Aylesworth, John Ortiz) of Gunnison, Colorado, are caught up in the crossfire when two deadly extraterrestrial species Residents (Steven Pasquale, Reiko Aylesworth, John Ortiz) of Gunnison, Colorado, are caught up in the crossfire when two deadly extraterrestrial species bring their longstanding conflict to Earth. On the one side, nearly indestructible Aliens; on the other, a lone Predator whose mission is to wipe out all traces of the Alien infestation from Earth, no matter who gets in the way. I was filled with my gore AVP Poster-Comic versionscore card.  Wanting to see more with this movie.  I wanted to extend the ending but it was good, and for all that I talked to after the movie, loved it.  I gave this a B+ for this follow-up. I was glad to finally know what happened with the first movie, and this requiem was filling. A great date movie, a great movie to see with friends.

The Great Debater:  This is a great movie, a lot of The Great Debaters posterpeople remembered the time.  There was a lot of talking after this movie and it was great.  I went from neighborhood to neighborhood to check out reactions from film goers.  Some did not know about the movie and liked it, some knew of the history and some remembered the story and the time and was glad that stories like this one was told and will be remembered. It was great to see a great cast doing such a great job, my parents even chimed in to say that they loved it. They rated the movie since they went with me in Florida, NYC, and D.C.  I saw it a total of 12 times with various people but the parental's gave it a A for the best picture they had seen last year.  We went to theDenzel plays a teacher in pic premiere and I forgot to put this in till now. Sorry.. Denzel Washington directs and stars in this uplifting drama based on a true story about a small East Texas all-black college in 1935 that rises to the top of the nation's debate teams in a duel against Harvard. A great family movie to take the kids to.  They are not our old chipmunks but then again, they are...  You will all enjoy this film, it is ageless and timeless as these new-old chipmunks are great for the kids.

First Sunday:  A movie that has a all star cast, Ice Cube, first SundayTracey Morgan were hilarious.  This is a feel good movie, a great family movie filled with laughter, crying, searching, wanting and a great cast to pull off a great movie. I sat there thinking that it would be a comedy, full of stupid pranks but it was semi-comical, semi-serious.  It was a masterpiece of sorts, and I gave it a A, for it entertained me in many ways, and touched my soul in several ways. A great date movie..  The movie is about two wayward men, one who needs guidance, one who just gets into trouble by listening to the wrong people.  Check out their great website.. for exclusives and downloads and extras.. David E. Talbert makes his directorial debut with this comedy about Durell (Ice Cube) and LeeJohn (Tracy Morgan), childhood friends with a knack for getting into trouble. Despite his continual bad decisions, Durell gets one thing right: he's a good father to his adolescent son. When he learns that the boy's mother, his ex-girlfriend, Omunique (Regina Hall), needs $17,000 to buy her beauty shop or she’ll leave Baltimore and move to Atlanta, he’s determined to get her the money to keep his son in his life. Meanwhile, LeeJohn needs big money fast to pay off some bad guys. Durell and LeeJohn decide that the collection plate of their local church holds the answer to their money woes. First Sunday poster 2But their attempt to rob the church is foiled in progress: the money is already missing, and the would-be burglars didn’t realize there would be people at the church. Finding themselves with a group of parishioners and choir members at their mercy, Durell and LeeJohn have to make some decisions about exactly what kind of men they want to be. FIRST SUNDAY also makes a statement about the role of the church in urban areas and its importance within the community.

Meet the Spartans:  I was ready to see this movie, but Meet_the_Spartans-posterwas let down in a way.  Do not get me Wrong, it is a ok movie but could have been way better. The warriors of 300 might have been able to hold their own--at least for awhile--against an army of thousands, but can they defend themselves against this satire? From the minds behind EPIC MOVIE, MEET THE SPARTANS tackles everything from the action movie to YOU GOT SERVED to Britney Spears.  It is a spoof film, but the movie just could have been done better.  I gave this a C+, filled with goofs on spoofs.  I actually liked the ending, while the credits was rolling, you will laugh your butt off.  It is filled with some gut wrenching 'Oh No YouMeet the Spartans Dance Didn't!!' gasps around the theatre but it is enjoyable.  Oh and some would just say that was just wrong but funny. so go see it ok. Oh yet, see it when it come out on video, on sale, I saw it for $5 and still want half back but it was ok.

Juno: Well, a lot of people are talking about this film and I do not Juno posterknow why.  It was not that good, but it was ok. The word "quirky" has become the quick and easy way to describe films such as LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and LARS AND THE REAL GIRL that straddle the lines between indie and studio films and comedy and drama. While JUNO fits into that same category, this distinctive dramedy is in a class all its own. Ellen Page(X-MEN: THE LAST STAND) stars as Juno, a witty teenage girl whose boredom doesn’t lead her to the mall. Instead, she makes a one-time trip into the arms of her best friend Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera). When Juno discovers that she’s pregnant, she’s forced to grow up fast as she tries to find adoptive parents for her quickly growing child. JUNO might have a lot of strengths--Page’s award-worthy performance, a pitch-perfect soundtrack, excellent direction from Jason Reitman--but it’s the screenwriting debut of writer Cody Diablo that makes this such a winning film. Famous for her blog and her book CANDY GIRL: A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF AN UNLIKELY STRIPPER, Diablo has a unique voice and an incredible ear for dialogue. But even the nearly perfect script wouldn’t sound so good if it weren’t for the talents of these actors, particularly Page. She won raves for her first major role in HARD CANDY, but this performance proves it wasn’t a fluke. The rest of the cast, especially J.K. Simmons as Juno’s dad, is just as worthy of attention. JUNO continues Cera’s cinematic ascent after his success with the hit comedy SUPERBAD, and his ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT costar Jason Bateman uses his dry delivery to great effect as a potential parent for Juno’s baby. Songs from Kimya Dawson perfectly capture the film’s tone with the music’s sweet, smart, and funny sounds.  I gave it a C rating, I hope you like it, ok. Although this is not a film to base the talk with your kids, it definitely has started some talking in homes.  Teen Pregnancy is a epidemic and if Jamie Lynn Spears is anything to talk about, this hits the nail.
