Sean Levert, the son of O'Jays frontman Eddie Levert and
brother of late singer Gerald Levert, died Sunday night at a Cleveland
hospital. According to reports, the 39-year-old
singer was being held at
Cuyahoga County Jail for allegedly owing $85,000 in child-support payments
when he suddenly became ill in his cell. An autopsy is being performed to
determine the cause of death. Sean was a founding member of LeVert, an R&B
group he formed with Gerald and childhood friend Marc Gordon.
T-Pain is hitting the road with artists from his
Nappy
Boy Records imprint in April. Jay Lyriq, Tay Dizm and Sophia Fresh will
join him on the 27-date trek, which launches April 4 in Elizabeth, N.J.,
and runs through a May 10 stop in Maplewood, Minn. In other tour news,
Soulja Boy has postponed his upcoming tour with Lil Mama until September.
T.I. entered guilty pleas to
three firearms charges Thursday in federal court in Atlanta.
Under a unique plea agreement, the rapper will be sentenced to a one-year
prison term on March 27, 2009, provided that he pays a $100,000 fine and
performs 1,000 hours of a total of 1,500 hours of community service over
the course of the next year. "While I'm not looking forward to being
incarcerated, I have a long road of redemption to travel," he said after
the hearing. "I am dedicated and committed to that." We hear ya..
Aretha Franklin had an eventful 66th birthday
Tuesday
night in New York, which included catching a performance of Broadway's Cat
on a Hot Tin Roof and hosting her own celebrity-filled party at a
Ritz-Carlton hotel. Elsewhere, animal-rights group PETA has sent Aretha a
letter promising the Queen of Soul that if she sheds her fur coats, it
will R-E-S-P-E-C-T-fully pay her previously reported $19,000 property-tax
bill.
Remy Ma was found guilty Thursday of assault and weapon
charges stemming from a July 2007 incident in which she allegedly shot an
acquaintance,
Makeda Barnes-Joseph, during an argument over $3,000. The rapper put her
head down and wept as jurors announced guilty verdicts of first-degree
assault and weapons offenses. "Oh my God," Remy screamed as bailiffs
escorted her out of the courtroom in handcuffs. Remy will face up to 25
years in prison during her April 23 sentencing. We hope for the best
for her..

He did by the way, got somewhere between $100K and $300K to host his own
b-day, so the damage couldn't be all bad.
Soulful diva Lalah Hathaway will release her fifth disc, Self Portrait,
on June 3 via Stax Records.
The set's first single is "Let Go," which was co-penned by Lalah, producer
Rex Rideout and fellow singer-songwriter Rahsaan Patterson. "[The song]
came out of a need for me to let go of the worry . . . and old ideas as
well as some people who were taking up too much space in my life," says
Lalah of the track.
It looks like Soulja Boy isn't popular with all
young
music fans. According to authorities in Bloomington, Ill., a 12-year-old
boy was arrested Thursday for throwing a rock through the windshield of
Soulja's tour bus. The "Crank That" rapper was in town performing a show
at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. When police asked the kid why he vandalized
the tour bus, he reportedly responded: "I hate Soulja Boy."
T.I. made an appearance at the New Birth Missionary Church in Atlanta
on Sunday as a guest
speaker during the church's Easter service. The rapper, who was on a brief
leave from his house arrest, spoke to a crowd of 30,000 about HIV and AIDS
awareness. Among the attendees were actress Sheryl Lee Ralph and gospel
maverick Fred Hammond. According to T.I.'s rep, he was accompanied by his
mother; his pregnant girlfriend, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle; and his six
children.
Rick Ross is definitely the
boss now that his latest disc, Trilla, is the No. 1 album in the country,
besting other debuts by fellow verbalists

Dogg and Fat Joe. "I looked at Snoop and Fat Joe as legends with careers,"

Gladys Knight is embarking on a major tour of casinos and theater
venues. The veteran singer's trek begins April 3 in Niagara Falls, Canada,

disco queen's tour kicks off June 27 in Lake Charles, La., and wraps up

Alicia Keys tells fans in a
new video post from Germany that she was "so mad" that a

bout with laryngitis forced her to cancel two gigs. "It was very, very
scary," she reveals. "But it worked out and I am feeling much better. The

What is the Hip Hop world coming to: Now that Paperboy, whose real name
is Mitchell Charles
Johnson, was popped in Merced, Calif. after cops found a small amount of
pot and a prescription bottle not in his name after a traffic stop.
Paperboy was booked on misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession and
transportation, illegal possession of prescription medication and driving
on a suspended license. He was released after posting $10,000 bail.
Ludacris has teamed up with Megamobile TV to create an artist-driven
networking website called
WeMix.com.
The site has all of
the tools needed to help budding musicians create songs and collaborate
digitally with other unsigned artists worldwide. Currently in preview
mode, the website will officially launch in April. "It doesn't matter what
type of music you're into, at
WeMix.com it's an open playing field," says Luda. "It truly is the
people's record company."
Usher's gaining some momentum as "Love in
This
Club" featuring Young Jeezy sticks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a

A Supremes anthology titled Let the Music Play: Supreme Rarities
1960-1969 will arrive in stores April 29. The two-CD collection boasts 48

set features the Supremes' take on the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No)

Rapper Ne-Yo is set to release Year of the Gentleman, his third album
in as many years, on June 24.
"Some of it is going to be urban, some of it is gonna be pop," says the
singer-songwriter of the effort. "Some is gonna ride that middle." Listen

WWE star Jeff Hardy's home in Cameron,
North
Carolina burned to the ground last night, the same week he was suspended
for 60 days for failing his second drug test! He lost all his possessions,
and his dog perished in the blaze.
Hardy
and his girlfriend were not home at the time. Jeff's brother, Matt, saw
smoke coming from the home, but was too late to do anything about it. Jeff
lived in a double-wide trailer.
Well, as some may know, Soulja Boy will hit the
road next month on his "21 & Under" tour. The 19-city trek kicks off on
April 11 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and wraps up May 11 in Atlanta. Soulja has
enlisted fellow rapper Lil' Mama and newcomer V.I.C. as his opening acts.

New jack swing mastermind Teddy Riley has launched

a website that allows struggling artists to get their music heard on the
Internet. The veteran hit maker believes the Web has become the new center
of the music industry. "This is the new way to make money because records
are not selling these days because of the digital business," says Teddy.
"You can get the same marketing and promotion that the record companies
have now."
Trey Songz recently lent his support to the Boys & Girls Clubs of
America to grant teens their dreams of hanging out with him on tour. The

The Comedy Central network has teamed up with Snoop Dogg to develop a
new animated

Usher's "Love in This Club" (featuring Young Jeezy) remains at No. 1 on
the Billboard
Hot 100 chart for the second consecutive week. The club banger is the
first single off his upcoming disc, Here I Stand, which hit makers Dre &
Vidal say is his most mature work to date. The title track, which the duo
produced, has Usher addressing his fans about his career and family. "It's
a smash," attests Vidal. "He's talking about some issues."
Missy Elliott is continuing to expand the musical elements of hip-hop
with her as-yet-untitled
seventh effort. According to
Billboard.com, the
rapper is dabbling with electro-beats and '70s go-go funk on the LP.
Longtime collaborators Timbaland and Danjahands are on board for the
musical ride. Among the notable tracks are the first single "Best, Best"
and the cheeky "Milk & Cookies," which finds Missy bragging about her
bedroom prowess. The new album is due in May

Girls Gone Wild head Joe
Francis is finally back out of jail. Vowing to never go back. He

cuisine and promising to never go back to Bay County, Fla., where he was
first jailed almost
a year ago. He's a free man now, having stru ck a plea deal with the
State's Attorney there to clean up his legal mess there once and for all.
To add insult to injury, Joe sat down for his first after-court meal, and
guess who was sitting at the next table at a Panama City BBQ joint, the
State's Attorney, Steve Meadows! Ouch.. watch it.
Aretha gets no respect, especially lately. First having her title of
Queen of Soul usurped, but now she is fighting to keep her Detroit place.
Aretha says a mistake by her lawyer over $445 in 2005 taxes and late fees
caused her $700,000 mansion to slip into foreclosure.
According
to the court documents, the amazing singer owes $19,192 in back taxes. She
says she plans to pay up and reclaim the mansion by the March 31 deadline.
Gospel superstar Dorinda Clark-Cole will
release her new disc, Take It Back, on April 15. The set features
inspirational songs of hope
and triumph. "I'm taking back everything that the enemy has stolen from me
over the last three years," says Dorinda. "He tried to take my dreams. I'm

weekend. This will mark the songbird's first performance on the show since
a November 1997 appearance. "They wanted her for 10 years," says Mimi's
rep. "It's going to be hot!" Mariah's new disc, E=MC², is due in stores
April 15th.
Veteran rhyme-slinger Ice Cube is nearly finished recording his ninth
effort, Raw Footage. The set, which is due in June, will feature cameos
from Musiq Soulchild, WC, Nas and Scarface. Cube plans to celebrate the
project
with a free
cybercast concert Saturday at the
South by Southwest
convention in Austin, Texas. The gig will stream live via his online
television channel,
UVNTV.com.
India-Arie will make her Broadway debut in the revival of
For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf,
which is being produced by comedian Whoopi Goldberg.
The
play, an update of the 1976 Obie-winning production, presents stories from
seven women of color from various backgrounds. Previews will begin in
mid-July before its official run starts in early August this year. So

And the Crazies come out at night, and someone forgot to tell Kate
Hudson that fact. A person with
a gun showed up at Kates home in NYC. A woman called 911 after seeing what
she thought were men on her roof with a rifle. When cops arrived, they
found two young men, one with a camera and one with an unloaded rifle.
From what we're hearing on the scene, the men are telling cops they are
shooting a movie, and NYU is nearby, so it seemed to be on the up and up.
But for everyone's protection both men are in cuffs and are still being
interviewed at the scene. Kate was not at home at the time.
Fat Joe is blazing in the room with his new
Album aptly named "The Elephant in the Room". It is in
stores
as we speak today. It is a great album and filled with some hotness, so go
out and check it out. Joe was on the CW11 on Tuesday, the 11th and
rocked the cameras. 14 years and a new metaphor. He already got a no. 8 on
this album. He is a Bronx man, and blazing and rocking ya. 'If aint about
money' is gonna blow up also. Fat Joe has partnered with hat-maker New Era
to create a baseball cap in conjunction with his just-released LP,
Elephant in the Room. The limited-edition lids are available now via
in-store and online promotions. Meanwhile, Fat Joe says his latest hit, "I
Won't Tell" (featuring J. Holiday), was inspired by his rap rivals 50 Cent
and Remy Ma, who formed a secret alliance together. "They make me deliver
hits," Joe says. "They say success is the best revenge."
LL Cool J unveiled his Todd Smith clothing line
(named
after himself) in Los Angeles this past Saturday, the 8th at Macy's.
It's interesting that when LL released his original Todd Smith line back
in the days it was all about the high end fashion with shirts and ties,
dinner jackets, etc. Now the look is definitely more street wear with the
usual hoodies, t-shirts, etc.
Tony Yayo has been tapped to host the Book Bank Foundation's first
Community Tour this week
to help promote literacy among teens. However, the G-Unit rapper will face
some opposition while on the jaunt. Cynthia Reed, the mother of a teen
that Tony is alleged to have assaulted, is planning to protest the book
tour. "Crimes against children should never be legitimized just because a
person is an entertainer," she says.
Execs at NBC are rumored to be angry with Mariah Carey and her
management team for allegedly
reneging on a deal that had the diva scheduled to perform tracks from her
upcoming album, E=MC², on the Today show. As part of the reported
agreement, NBC secured her a role on My Name Is Earl; now, sources say
she's abandoned the NBC deal by agreeing to appear on rival network ABC's
Good Morning America.
After a four-year hiatus, Ashanti is returning to
the
R&B game with a new disc, The Declaration, on June 10. The set features
such collaborators and producers as Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke,
Babyface, Jermaine Dupri and LT Hutton. The songbird currently is
garnering major airplay for the album's first single, "The Way That I Love

Well, Good Luck is not in the cards for Arsis. The Death-metal outfit
had a little problem. It was just after talking to a MTV reporter. (For

tour
in seven years this fall in support of her new album, Discipline. "I would
love to perform every single I've had, but that's a pretty long show," she

Update: Miss Janet Jackson checked into Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical
Center on Monday. "Janet is fine," says her rep. "She's just battling this

Kingston and Omarion are among the scheduled performers on Nickelodeon's
new Dance on Sunset series, launching March 29.
Hey doesn't Kelly Roland looks a little
different
nowadays. Bigger even, well it is not your eyes that are damaged, or your
imagination. She has long been a A cup in the top, but decided that she
was tired of not fitting into her tops.
She decided to get a breast job done to make herself a B cup. She
should have gone at least halfway to C but it is ok, she looks great as a
B. She is saying that she is happier this way. Kelly had the surgery
last October. It was funny since it hit my desk and we never
substantiated it, waiting for her to announce it.
Jessica Simpson and PCD (The Pussycat
Dolls)
are going on tour. It will be kind of ruff. She and the Dolls are
going to Kuwait to entertain the troops. It will be the rough style
for a bit and she will have to get used to it for a
few days. She will ditch the high life, limos and hotels for bunk beds and
sleeping bags. The show will air live on
MySpace on Monday.
Chanté Moore is returning to the R&B scene
on
the solo tip with Love the Woman, her first new studio effort in eight
years. The collection, which is tentatively due in April, will feature
production assistance from proven hitmakers George Duke, Raphael Saadiq
and Warryn Campbell. Chanté's last recording was 2006's Uncovered/Covered,
a gospel disc with husband Kenny Lattimore.
Janet Jackson is still in control as her 10th
disc,
Discipline, debuts atop the Billboard 200 chart. The collection pushed
181,000 units in its first week of release, making it Janet's first No. 1
album since 2001's All for You. Fellow songbird Erykah Badu finished at
No. 2 with New Amerykah Pt. One: 4th World War, which moved 122,000
copies. Erykah's as-yet-untitled second volume of New Amerykah is due this
summer.
Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown and Jill Scott have been tapped
to
headline the 2008 Essence Music Festival this summer. Also performing at
the event are Morris Day and the Time; Maze featuring Frankie

singer's earnings. He is seeking $350,000 in damages. Meanwhile, Chris
will appear at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards, airing live March 29 at
8 p.m. EST.
Drew Barrymore is giving $1
million to the UN World Food Program to help feed hungry kids in Africa,
so she proclaimed on Monday's "Oprah." She's an Ambassador Against Hunger,
and has traveled twice to Kenya to help the group.
The Game finally showed up to Twin Towers to serve his
weapons-possession sentence,
and
TMZ learned that
he'll be a "keep away" while inside, meaning that he'll be segregated from
the general population while in the joint. The rapper (real name: Jayceon
Taylor) turned up to turn himself in late Sunday night, accompanied by his
uber-lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley, and dozens of his friends and supporters
wearing "Free The Game" t-shirts. We're told that he was described as
being "his usual self" upon check-in. The Game is supposed to serve 60
days, but we're told that he might not serve even half that many. He was
accused of pulling a gun on a player from an opposing team during a pickup
game at a South Los Angeles school nearly a year ago.
Kelly Rowland will drop a digital-only release titled Ms. Kelly: Diva
Deluxe on March 25. The collection
boasts five new songs, including "Daylight" (featuring Gym Class Heroes
frontman Travis McCoy). "The tracks on Diva Deluxe are too hot to hold
onto," says Kelly. "So I decided to release them digitally so my fans
could get into them as soon as possible. "Meanwhile, a "Work" remix EP
currently is available, while a "Daylight" remix EP surfaces Tuesday.
Hip Hop Star Juvenile's 4-year-old daughter, Jelani, her
sister
Micaiah and their mother, Joy Deleston, were shot and killed on Thursday
night in Atlanta. Police reveals that the alleged shooter is the mother's
17-year-old son, Anthony Tyrone Terrell Jr. He currently is in jail and
charged with three counts of murder and three counts of aggravated
assault. Juvenile is in "shock" and is "devastated" over the tragic loss,
said his manager, Aubrey Francis. We mourn her loss.. Update: Members of
the hip-hop community are grieving with rapper Juvenile over the
tragic loss of his 4-year-old daughter, Jelani, who was slain along
with her sister, Micaiah Alique, and mother, Joy Deleston,
in Atlanta last Thursday. "I send out my prayers to Juve and his family,"
says friend B.G. "My heart goes out to my homie." Funeral services
are
set for this Saturday in South Carolina.

A Cleveland judge on Monday sentenced Sean Levert, the younger brother
of the late crooner Gerald Levert, to 22 months in prison for being
delinquent on his child-support payments. According to court documents,
the former LeVert singer owes $85,000 in back child support for his three
children ages 11, 15 and 17. Sean had no comment on the matter.
Snoop Dogg is hitting the road with rock act 311 for the 2008 Summer
Unity Tour. The
trek begins June 24 in Phoenix and wraps Aug. 3 in Austin, Texas.
Meanwhile, Snoop's performance on VH1 Storytellers premieres Monday at 10
p.m. ET. Exclusive songs not featured on the telecast, including "Gin and
Juice" and "Neva Have To Worry," will begin streaming
here on Friday.
Justin Timberlake is hosting an
awards
show,
and this time it's definitely not the Grammy's. ESPN has lined up the
27-year-old singer-actor to host its annual ESPY Awards show this summer,
celebrating some of the best and funniest moments in sports over the past
year. The ceremony, to be held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los
Angeles on July 20, will be televised live on ESPN. Timberlake has
said he's a sports junkie when asked.
According to a
report on the Smoking Gun
website, it appears that the Los Angles Times relied on forged FBI
documents (known as "302s") created by a jailed inmate for its
controversial story that implicated Diddy, James "Jimmy" Rosemond and
others in the 1994 shooting of Tupac Shakur. Los Angeles Times editor Russ
Stanton announced Wednesday that he will launch an internal investigation
into the authenticity of those documents used in the story.

George Michael is going on U.S.
tour for
his
new album "25" in June. It is released on April 4th. It is a 7 week

Diddy has settled a lawsuit brought against him by a Los Angeles man
who claimed the music mogul attacked him last year at a post-Oscar
shindig. Gerard Rechnitzer alleged that Diddy punched him, shoved his
girlfriend and spat on another woman as they were all leaving the party. Diddy's
attorney filed a document Friday in Los Angeles stating that the case had
been settled, but the terms of the agreement were not immediately
disclosed.
Chris Brown says he's planning to reissue Exclusive with new tracks and
possibly a DVD sometime in the next couple of months. New single "Forever"
will be one of the
set's additions. Meanwhile, Chris has spoken out regarding his reported
romance with Rihanna. "I have a close friend, but it's not like a
relationship," he says. "I'm not trying to settle down. I'm only 18, so
I'm just trying to live my life and have fun."

India.Arie has inked a deal with Universal Republic Records to form her
own record label called SoulBird Music. The flagship artist

the songbird's imprint will be singer-guitarist Anthony David, who will
release a new LP titled Acey Deucey on June 17. "I'm excited that Tony
will be the first artist to be released on SoulBird," beams India. "Tony

Justin Timberlake presented two separate $100,000 checks to the
Memphis Music Foundation and the Memphis Rock N' Soul Museum on
Thursday.
The organizations plan to use the donations toward music education for
local students and preserving the musical legacy in Memphis. "Music
education and keeping the legacy of Memphis music alive has always been
important to me," said Justin, who made the donations through his own
foundation.
R&B heartthrob Lloyd has set a July 15 release
date for his third effort, Lessons in Love. Rhyme-slinger Nelly is among

Actor, director and producer Ivan Dixon, best known for his role as
Kinchloe on the 1960s television series "Hogan's
Heroes,"
died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC after a hemorrhage
and of complications from kidney failure. He was 76. His most famous role
was U.S. Staff Sgt. James Kinchloe on TV's "Hogan's Heroes," a satire set
in a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II. Kinchloe, in charge
of electronic communications, could mimic German officers on the radio or
phone.
Mariah Carey and Carlos Santana will be
featured
in a new Spanish-language commercial touting Macy's growing lineup of
celebrity designers. The ad, which was shot by award-winning director
Barry Levinson (Rain Man), is set to
debut
in Latino markets Sunday; an English-language version will premiere in all
markets beginning the next day. A second star-studded spot featuring
Mariah, Halle Berry baby daddy Gabriel Aubry, Donald Trump and Martha
Stewart will hit airwaves Wednesday.
Dwele has inked a deal with independent label Koch Records to release
his as-yet-untitled next disc in June. This will be his first studio
effort since 2005's Some

Jill Scott is in shock over the sudden passing of veteran filmmaker
Anthony Minghella, who died Tuesday in London at the age of 54 from a
brain hemorrhage. Minghella recently directed Jill as the lead character
Precious Ramotswe in the upcoming HBO film The No. 1 Ladies Detective
Agency. "My
heart aches with grief," said Jill. "Words cannot express how deeply he
will be missed or how deeply he was loved."
Songbirds Erykah Badu and Angie Stone
have
been tapped to perform at the Jubilee City Fest music festival in
Montgomery, Ala. Angie will perform on May 23, while Erykah will hit the
stage on May 24. In other festival news, a bevy of soul acts are
headlining Chicago's

Festival this summer. Among them are Roberta Flack (June 13); the
Temptations and Four Tops (June 28); and Donna Summer (Aug. 30).
Rap Entrepreneur Diddy just finished his deposition last Wednesday in a
$130 million civil suit filed against him, incarcerated rapper Shyne (now
known as Moses Michael
Leviy) and other parties concerning a 1999 club shooting in New York. The
suit is being brought on by Natania Reuben, who was shot in the face
during the incident. Shyne currently is serving a 10-year prison sentence
after being convicted of five charges related to the case. A civil trial
may start in 2009. In Unrelated news, Danity Dane just released their new
album "Dollhouse".
Flo Rida, Wyclef Jean and Lloyd are
among
the performers enrolled for mtvU's Campus Invasion Music Festival 2008.
Shows will be staged May 2 in College Park, Md.; May 3 in Philadelphia;
and May 4 in Boston. Wyclef will perform at all three gigs, while Lloyd
and Flo will play Philly
and Boston, respectively. Each concert will also feature winners of the

Ugly Betty star Vanessa Williams is featured with designer and colon
cancer survivor Carmen Marc Valvo, in a new public service announcement
aimed at educating people about getting screened for cancer. The ad for
the Entertainment Industry Foundation's National Colorectal Cancer
Research Alliance
will air throughout March during National Colorectal Cancer Awareness
Month. "Colon cancer isn't glamorous," says Vanessa. "As a first step, we
want to encourage people to talk to their doctors about getting screened."
