The Latin boy band Menudo is coming back, and scores of teenagers turned
out on Saturday to audition
at the last of four nationwide open calls in hopes of becoming the next
Ricky Martin . About 100 would-be pop stars sang a cappella in both English
and Spanish for a shot at becoming one of the five new members of the
reformed Menudo, which first performed in 1977, enjoyed its heyday in the
1980s, changed its name to MDO in 1997 and disbanded in 2003.
The head of the British army said Monday that he had personally decided
that Prince Harry , the third in line to the throne, will serve with a
combat unit in Iraq. Gen. Sir Richard Dannatt said the decision would
be kept under review, but he hoped his statement would end media speculation
on Harry's deployment. "The decision has been taken by myself that he will
deploy in due course," Dannatt said. "I would urge that the somewhat
frenzied media activity surrounding this particular story should cease in
the interests of the overall security of all our people deployed in Iraq."
He spoke after newspaper reports cited unidentified senior military
officials as saying an army review was likely to lead to Harry being banned
from the battlefield, although he could still do a desk job.
Speaking of rap, politically-oriented hip-hop star Karl Rove took a page
from the
MC
Hammer playbook last week by declaring "Can't touch this" to none other Miss
Sheryl Crow a meeting we suspect bordered on the hilariously surreal. The
scoop: During last Saturday's White House Correspondents Dinner, Crow and
Laurie David partners on the current Stop Global Warming College Tour,
approached Rove with the intent of discussing the issue and matters soon,
heated up. Reports say that when Crow touched Rove's arm to "diffuse" the
situation, he swiftly snapped, "Don't touch me!" Things soon got even
uglier, we hear, but we'll leave further discussion to political
commentators and note only that this sort of thing rarely happens in real
life!
Russell Simmons following a "rap summit"
held by industry bigwigs in New York. And
that
would be: So-called "clean" versions of rap songs should be clean. Well,
that's hard to argue with, we say. Surprisingly, Simmons called upon the
record and radio industries to do the actual dirty work--that is, to
literally enforce a ban of three nasty terms that individually start with
the letters "N," "B," and "H" (no mention of a "W" there, concerned
grammarians noted)--and got flack from some quarters for not suggesting that
artists themselves watch their mouths while they're at it, but what the
heck. No word on whether the "unclean" versions of can still be unclean, so
let's wait and see! Back to Top
Rapper Eve was arrested on Thursday, she was driving drunk and her gold
Maserati. Her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
She was driving on Hollywood blvd when she hit a divider. Two people
in the car with her at time was not hurt. The crash occurred about
2:45 a.m. on Hollywood Boulevard, said police Officer Martha Garcia. Eve,
whose full name is Eve Jeffers, submitted to testing to determine her blood
alcohol level, but the results weren't immediately available. She posted $30,000 bail for
herself, Sean Penn (the Actor) came to visit her at the police station,
everyone is speculating why??? Back to Top
Well, it was a hard road for this single mother and she had to fight to
win but she did fight the odds. Besides being berated the night before
for having a child from her rival Melissa. The girls were all
talented and performed well together. This was a fight from the
beginning and was a great show. If you did not follow the show you
missed a great group of women coming of their own.
Performance: Melissa R. got catty in the end and was not performing her best
in the end. It may have lead to her downfall however. She had a very Deer in the Headlights look as she took the
stage. Her single performance was very slow and many thought she did
well, but she started in a sitting position and was so low it was painful
and I found myself yelling at the TV to get up, she soon did but it felt
like eternity for me to bring a good performance overall. What messed her up was that she fought the night
before in a yelling match with Asia, and in the God does not like ugly. I
still wish her the best. Chelsea did a good performance but as usual she was
shaky but still a better performance by far. Her downfall was her
dancing that took her out of the running and I agree with the creator of the
Pussycat dolls, she could have started a group with the three girls or the
last 5 or 6 in my estimation. Chelsea was a great pick, but a lot of
work in the end so the only choice in the matter was NYer Asia. Her
performance was good,
and her stage performance even when the fellow group
came on she fit in well. She is of course shortest but not taking away from
the group.
Even though many have sounded off, but in the end the group will be
good with her. Nicole is and always will be the leader of the group.
Her wanting to do some solo stuff prompted the search and everyone says she
is the heart of the group. She is the spiritual head of the group and
the glue that keeps the Dolls together. She was a Knicks dancer was a rookie
when she left to try out, she was supported by the Knicks. Well Asia,
Congrats and good luck, the work begins. She will be talking to the record
label any day now and getting it on.
Eminem
wants to buy a Detroit venue which was featured in his film 8 Mile. The
rapper is in negotiations to purchase the St. Andrew's Hall venue from Live
Nation for an undisclosed amount. As part of the deal, Eminem and his

management will run the day-to-day operations of the club. The rap battle
scenes in 8 Mile were filled in an area of St. Andrew's Hall called "The

arrested for attacking the 14-year-old son of a rival rap mogul. Tony pled
not guilty, and this may have been payback for the attack. Back to Top
He does the "Monster Mash" no more. Bobby
"Boris" Pickett, whose dead-on Boris Karloff impression propelled the
Halloween anthem to the top of the charts in 1962, making him one of pop
music's most enduring one-hit wonders, has died of leukemia. He was 69.
Pickett, dubbed "The Guy Lombardo of Halloween," died Wednesday night at the
West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital, said his longtime manager, Stuart Hersh.
His daughter, Nancy, and his sister, Lynda, were at Pickett's bedside.
"Monster Mash" hit the Billboard chart three times: when it debuted in 1962,
reaching No. 1 the week before Halloween; again in August 1970, and for a
third time in May 1973. The resurrections were appropriate for a song where
Pickett gravely intoned the forever-stuck-in-your-head chorus: "He did the
monster mash. ... It was a graveyard smash."

Get ready for "Spider-Man:
The Broadway Musical." That may
not be the official
title, but Marvel Studios is putting the pieces together for a musical on
the Great White Way starring the popular superhero. Julie Taymor, who won
Tonys for direction and costume design for the Broadway production of "The
Lion King," will direct, with U2's Bono and The Edge creating new music and
lyrics for the project. Auditions are taking place, and a reading is
scheduled for the summer. No dates for a Broadway opening have been set.
While the Spider-Man musical marks the first time a Marvel character has
been the subject of a Broadway show, it's not the first time a superhero has
hit the stage. Superman was in the spotlight of "It's a Bird, It's a Plane,
It's Superman," which opened at the Alvin Theatre in 1966. Despite fairly
positive reviews, it closed a few months later. Just remember that
Spiderman 3 will be released May 4th. Back to Top

U.S. album sales are down 17 percent so
far this year, a downward spiral caused in part by a surge in online music
purchases and fewer big-name albums being released in the first quarter. A
total of 135.8 million albums were sold in the U.S. through the end of last
week, compared to 163.3 million in the year-ago period, according to Nielsen
SoundScan. The number of digital tracks sold, meanwhile, jumped 53 percent
to 250.8 million compared to 164.2 million in the same period last year, the
firm said. The shortfall in album sales drops to 10.5 percent when sales of
digital singles are counted as 10-track equivalent albums. Still, overall
music sales are up by more than 17 percent, but that figure includes all
albums, singles, music videos and digital downloads. The recording industry
has seen CD album sales decline for years, in part due to the rise of online
file-sharing, but also as consumers have spent more of their leisure dollars
on other entertainment purchases, such as DVDs and video games. The industry
has benefited from sources of revenue that weren't around just a few years
ago, such as mobile music sales. So far this year, more than 72 million
ringtones have been purchased by mobile phone users, according to Nielsen
RingScan, which began tracking the sector last fall. One factor in the
decline of album sales is that record labels have cut back on the number of
new album releases by major artists early in the calendar year.

Don Imus' racist remarks got him fired by CBS on Thursday, the finale to
a stunning fall
for one of the nation's most prominent broadcasters. Imus was
initially suspended for two weeks after he called the Rutgers women's
basketball team "nappy-headed hos" on the air last week. But outrage kept
growing and advertisers kept bolting from his CBS radio show and its MSNBC
simulcast, which was canceled Wednesday. "There has been much
discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people,
particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society,"
CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves said in announcing
the decision. "That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as
we made our decision." Imus, 66, had a long history of inflammatory
remarks. But something struck a raw nerve when he targeted the Rutgers team,
which includes a class valedictorian, a future lawyer and a musical prodigy,
after they lost in the NCAA championship game. Imus was scheduled to meet
with the team Thursday evening at the
governor's mansion in
Princeton, N.J., and the team was seen entering the mansion. The Gov.
was in a accident, so it is not known if Imus met with the team anyway.
The Governors car was in an accident, he is doing ok right now. He was
fired in the middle of a two-day radio fundraiser for children's charities.
CBS announced that Imus' wife, Deirdre, and his longtime newsman, Charles
McCord, will host Friday's show. The cantankerous Imus, once named one
of the 25 Most Influential People in America by Time magazine and a member
of the National Broadcasters Hall of Fame, was one of radio's original shock
jocks. His career took flight in the 1970s and with a cocaine- and
vodka-fueled outrageous humor. After sobering up, he settled into a mix of
highbrow talk about politics and
culture, with locker room humor
sprinkled in. He issued repeated apologies as protests intensified.
But it wasn't enough as everyone from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama (news,
bio, voting record) to Oprah Winfrey joined the criticism. The Rev. Al
Sharpton and Jesse Jackson met with Moonves on Thursday to demand Imus'
removal. There was a march on Monday with broadcasters upset over the
firing of Imus, some of us are divided over his remarks, but not many wanted
or thought that he should be fired for his remarks. Back to Top
ROCK stars playing heroes in comic books is
hardly new, but in the old
days it was usually
the metal-and-makeup crowd that made the leap, such as Alice Cooper and
KISS, both of whom prowled the pages of their own Marvel Comics adventures
in the 1970s. Today, though, it's strong-willed female artists who seem to
best fit in the frame of modern comics. The latest is Avril Lavigne. "Avril
Lavigne's Make 5 Wishes" (Del Rey Manga, $12.95) arrives in stores Tuesday
and presents the spiky pop-punker as the imaginary best friend of a
disaffected teenager who loathes her parents and compares her social life at
school to a fly banging against a windowpane. "Being invisible would have
been cool," pines the girl, Hana. "I just wasn't worth noticing." Lavigne
isn't the only magical presence in Hana's life, though; through the Internet
she acquires a small, grinning demon who will grant her five wishes. If the
astral Lavigne is the angel on the girl's shoulder, the imp becomes the
devil in her hand and the wishes go bad in a way that would make Rod Serling
proud. Lavigne (whose new album, "The Best Damn Thing," hits stores next
week) is both character and creative consultant on the two-volume manga
series written by Joshua Dysart and drawn by Camilla D'Errico. Lavigne isn't
the first female rocker on the manga shelf; Courtney Love collaborated with
Ai Yazawa on "Princess Ai," the series launched in 2004 that reimagined Love
as an amnesiac of mystic origins who finds herself singing in the rock clubs
of Tokyo. Then there's Tori Amos, whose mutual admiration society with
comics titan Neil Gaiman has landed her in more than a few of his tales and
even led to her work on a 2006 tribute album to his stories and characters.

Snoop Dogg
will avoid jail time after pleading no contest Wednesday to two felony
charges, but he might be legally allowed to continue smoking marijuana. The
entertainer, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, entered the plea to a charge
of gun possession by a convicted felon and a marijuana-related drug charge,
prosecutors said. Dogg, 35, appeared before Los Angeles County Superior
Court Judge Terry
Smerling in Pasadena clad in a leather jacket, black jeans and a T-shirt.
As part of the agreement, he received a three-year suspended sentence and
five years' probation and will have to perform 800 hours of community
service, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. Of
those hours, half can be completed through his nonprofit Snoop Youth
Football League.
The county Probation Department will decide how the rest of the hours are
spent, prosecutors said. The agreement also places restrictions on Dogg's
entourage and employees. He is prohibited from hiring anyone as a security
guard or driver who has a criminal record or is affiliated with a gang.
Marijuana smoking has become one of Dogg's trademark bits in movies and
music videos.
Now:
Snoop Dogg has been refused entry into Australia because of his extensive
criminal record, the immigration minister said Thursday, the second time
this year the rapper has been barred from entering another country.
Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr., was due to fly
into Sydney this week to co-host the MTV Australia Video Music Awards.
Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said Snoop Dogg's visa was canceled
because he had failed to pass the country's strict character test, which
takes criminal convictions into account. Earlier this month, Snoop Dogg was
sentenced to five years' probation and 800 hours of community service after
he pleaded no contest to felony gun and drug charges in California. Snoop
Dogg was convicted in 1990 of cocaine possession and charged with gun
possession after a 1993 traffic stop. In 1997, he pleaded guilty in exchange
for three years' probation and a promise to make public service
announcements against violence. He was acquitted of a murder charge in 1996
after the death of an alleged street-gang member killed by gunfire from the
vehicle in which Snoop Dogg was traveling. During Snoop Dogg's last visit to
Australia in February, Andrews said he overstayed his visa by two days and
was given an official warning.. Back to Top

hurdle is custody. A hearing is set for Friday to determine the
custody of the seven-month old Dannielynn. The motherless tot could
inherit a fortune from the state of Smith's late husband, J. Howard,

CSI: Miami Seeks Bald Britney Type A character
inspired by the recently shorn pop star will appear in an upcoming episode
of CSI: Miami about
an actor who's killed during a stay in rehab, CBS confirmed to E! News
Tuesday, calling Spears' influence "a small part of the episode." It won't
be the Spears character getting the postmortem workup, but while at the
facility to investigate the victim's death, the David Caruso-led forensics
team comes across a starlet who has shaved her head. This will be the second
time a TV procedural
has taken on
the tabloid-friendly "Toxic" singer. In September, the 17th season premiere
of Law & Order featured a starlet named Sky Sweet whose mothering skills
come into question when she's spotted driving with the child on her lap and
in the Dick Wolf tradition of taking things a step further, pictures surface
showing her snorting coke while pregnant. Adding to the Spearsian scenario
is the actress' marriage to a wannabe rapper, who is eventually arrested for
gunning down a cop during a botched robbery. Meanwhile, after getting
spoofed, er, adapted for Law & Order, a pre-divorce Kevin Federline guest
starred on CSI in October as a foulmouthed gang banger under investigation
for a series of brutal beatings.

Rutgers women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer
on Tuesday called comments
made by radio
host Don Imus "racist and sexists remarks that are deplorable, despicable
and unconscionable." "These young ladies are the best this nation has
to offer, and we are so very fortunate to have them at Rutgers University,"
Stringer said of her players. "They are young ladies of class, distinction.
They are articulate, they are gifted. They are God's representatives in
every sense of the word." Imus was suspended for two weeks for calling the
Rutgers female basketball players "nappy-headed hos."
"It's not
about them (players) as black or nappy headed. It's about us as a people,"
Stringer said. "When there is not equality for all, or when there has been
denied equality for one, there has been denied equality for all." She
further said: "While they worked hard in the classroom and accomplished so
much and used their gifts and talents, you know, to bring the smiles and the
pride within this state in so many people, we had to experience racist and
sexist remarks that are deplorable, despicable, and abominable and
unconscionable. It hurts me."
Now,
the players had their say, their face of Grace outshines the vile insult.
Out of the terrible thoughtless comment, that started it all. You
know, out of all the rhetoric that has surrounded these young women, these
past few days about Don Imus and Rutgers women's basketball team, out of the
general low down business that so often dominates the airwaves these days,
here is that the women of that Rutgers team. Rising above it all,
yesterday. They were not mean, they were not vengeful, they do not
look to punch Don Imus in the face. They wanted us to see exactly who
had been insulted, and how. This, they did with great style.
Even on television, it was thrilling to witness. They were visibly
hurt by what Don Imus had said, on radio and on television, on last
Wednesday. So were their families and friends, and so was their
school, all was offended, but none spoke so eloquently about how they were
blindsided, but this team. In one comment, "we haven't done anything
to deserve this." Said Essence Carson, a basketball player and
straight a student, not to mention a piano player and the star of this day.
Before that Essence talked about, what Don Imus said about her and her
teammates, and about everything that has happened since. "It has
stolen a moment of pure grace from us," she said. If I have an
objection to the Rutgers press conference, it's that the players themselves
didn't have enough of a say. Over the first half hour of the press
conference, we heard only from the athletic director, the school president
and the basketball coach. Heather Zurich, the first student-athlete to
speak, didn't get the microphone until 11:42 a.m. (Zurich, incidentally, is
white.) Rutgers University called a press conference yesterday to respond to
radio host Don Imus calling them "nappy-headed hos," and the team announced
that it will have a private meeting with Imus to discuss the players'
reaction to his comments. What is amazing is that Don Imus continues to make
this about him. But through it all appetizers, and people alike have
seen through comments. He's just looking old, and all of this is
taking a toll on him. Back to Top Well, I have to
say ladies, you have been acting like ladies.
A celebrity fashion designer
accused of luring young women and girls with promises of modeling work and
then raping or sexually assaulting them was charged on Wednesday with
attacks on four more victims. Anand Jon, who has appeared on the popular
television show "America's Next Top Model," is now charged with 32 counts
involving sexual assaults on 12 victims, all women or girls from 14 to 23
years old with ties to the fashion industry. "It's violent. It's sexual
offences against younger female victims," Deputy District Attorney Mara
McIlvain told the court at Jon's arraignment in Beverly Hills. "It's a
pattern of conduct that is like a serial sex offender." The 33-year-old
Indian-born designer, touted by Newsweek magazine as a person to watch in
2007, pleaded innocent to all of the charges. His attorney has said the sex
was consensual and that the women falsely accused Jon because he did not
make them famous. Superior Court Judge Eldon Fox ordered Jon, who is free on
$1.3 million (658,000 pounds) bail, back to court on June 12. The judge said
Jon could resume work as a fashion designer but must not be alone with a
woman under the age of 30. Models under that age must sign documents
swearing they were never alone with him.

Television actor Jason Wahler

a star of MTV's "The Hills" and "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County," was
arrested early Sunday for investigation of assault and criminal trespass. He
posted bail and was released from the King County Jail nine hours later. It
was Wahler's third arrest since September, when he punched a city worker and
tow-truck driver in Los Angeles. Last month, the judge in that case
sentenced him to 60 days in jail, a sentence he was scheduled to serve
beginning in May, and ordered him to attend Alcoholics Anonymous classes and
a one-day program at the Museum of Tolerance for using racial slurs. The
police report said that shortly after midnight on Sunday, officers responded
to the Waterfront Marriott hotel. A security guard told them there had been
an altercation in the lobby, and that someone wrestled with Wahler to
restrain him.

An Indian court will this week hear testimony that British model
Elizabeth Hurley and her husband Arun Nayar
mocked Hindu traditions with their "showcase"
wedding, a
laywer said Tuesday. A decision whether the glamorous couple should be
prosecuted in the desert city of Jodhpur -- where they wed a month ago but
may now risk jail could come as early as next week, said lawyer Hastimal
Saraswat. The pair staged a lavish ceremony at a Rajasthan fort that was
exclusively covered by celebrity magazine Hello!, which reportedly paid two
million pounds (3.9 million dollars) for the rights. But after seeing the
pictures in the magazine, an angry Jodhpur resident hired Saraswat to take
legal action. The court has already heard from two witnesses,
including Khandelwal, and will hear testimony from at least three more,
including a Hindu priest, said lawyer Saraswat. Khandelwal said he was upset
when he saw Hurley and Nayar had taken alcohol prior to the religious rites
and kissed near the sacred fire that Hindus hold to be the witness to the
marriage. "They sat on a sofa and they were supposed to sit on the floor,"
Khandelwal added. His petition to the court which will decide whether or not

are a bit more feminine but still maintain some punk attitude," she said.
Hooded sweatshirts and Vans sit alongside diamond studs and patent-leather

During an interview with
New York's Hot 97 radio station on Wednesday, 50 Cent addressed the incident
in which G-Unit artist Tony Yayo allegedly roughed up the son of Game's
manager, Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond. 50 asserted his innocence in the matter,
saying surveillance cameras in his Connecticut home place him there at the
time of the incident. "Absolutely not," he said when Hot 97 personality Miss
Jones asked him if he was at all involved in
the
incident. 50 also proclaimed Yayo's innocence: "In this case, they are just
putting his name in it," 50 said. "[Yayo] didn't hit him." 50 also appeared
on Tyra Banks' "America's Next Top Model" Wednesday night. The rapper was a
guest at a party that served as a networking challenge for the hopefuls, and
got hands-on with an overeager contestant, pushing her into the pool. "You
ain't supposed to be over here right now," Fifty told aspiring model Jael.
"I asked you to leave," he said before shoving her into the water.

Melanie Brown has spiced up her life with the
arrival of a baby girl. A spokeswoman for the
former Scary Spice confirmed that Brown welcomed a "completely healthy"
daughter early Tuesday in Santa Monica. Brown drove herself to the hospital
to give birth in a delivery described as "straightforward and without
complication." "Mother and baby are now resting. No name has been
decided on as yet, and she is purely known as Baby Brown," the rep said in a
statement. "[Melanie] is looking forward to catching up on some sleep. Both
mother and baby are expected to leave the hospital in the next few days and
are looking forward to going back home," the statement continued. Brown's
mother, Andrea, and eight-year-old daughter, Phoenix, from her prior
marriage to Dutch dancer Jimmy Gulzar, were both present for the delivery of
the girl, whose demeanor was characterized as “calm and cheerful." The
newborn weighed in at 5 pounds, 4
ounces
and was said to have a "good head of hair." While Brown, 31, has said there
is "absolutely no question" that ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy is her baby's
daddy, that hasn't stopped Murphy from questioning his paternal role. When a
Dutch TV reporter asked him about Brown and her pregnancy in December,
Murphy told the interviewer not to "jump to conclusions." "You're being
presumptuous, because we're not together anymore, and we don't know whose
child that is until it comes out and has a blood test," Murphy said.
Following the interview, Brown issued a statement saying she was "upset and
distressed" by Murphy's comments. "I was astonished what Eddie said. There
is absolutely no question that Eddie is the father. "I have no idea why
anybody would want to conduct themselves in this kind of manner about such a
personal matter in such a public way." Brown and Murphy began appearing
together in public last summer, after Murphy's divorce from his ex-wife
Nicole Mitchell was finalized in April. Back to

The challenge was laid out on the Raw Thursday Night special.
Trump challenged McMahon to a match, but the WWE
Chairman cited that injuries suffered at Unforgiven months ago would prevent
him from any further in-ring combat. Instead, he made Trump an offer of his
own: “I have a proposal for you,” muttered the Chairman. “Why don't I find
someone to represent me, and you find someone to represent you?” “You’re
on!” responded Trump. “But let’s make this a little more interesting. As you
know, I have quite possibly the most famous head of hair in the world, and
for years, people have questioned if yours is even real!”
What Happened, well ECW World Champ Lashley gave Donald Trump the win at
Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania. As a result, Mr. McMahon is the
world's newest bald billionaire. It was a great match, and Aretha Franklin
revisited Detroit to open WrestleMania 23 with 'America the Beautiful.'
Batista battled valiantly…until a Tombstone Piledriver put down The Animal!
Now 15-0 at WrestleMania, Undertaker is the new World Heavyweight Champion.

Jennifer
Lopez, who has proudly declared herself "just a girl from the Bronx,"
delighted fans in her old neighborhood Wednesday by appearing at a local
record store to sign autographs and promote her first all-Spanish album. A
crowd of 500 gathered in front of the store to see Lopez, who was
accompanied by her husband, Marc Anthony. He has been seen as a hinder
at times to her career but a good distraction. I had to add that, I
know both and Marc just loves Jen and is a good influence for her I think.
But in the media, there are several sides to the relationship and I have to
be neutral, so Marc do not hate on me, but at least I explained this. Ok
back to the story, Jen was all smiles and cheery. "I want to say thank you
to everyone for coming to celebrate with me this very special day for me,"
Lopez, a New Yorker of Puerto Rican origin, said in Spanish. Continuing in
English, she said, "It touches my heart to be able to bring this album back
to my neighborhood, back to my home." The album, "Como Ama una Mujer," or
"How a Woman Loves," was released Tuesday and was mainly produced by her
husband. Lopez has said singing in Spanish has been a career-long goal
of hers. The pop singer-actress also has two Hispanic-themed films coming
out this year: "Bordertown," a film about the killings of hundreds of women
in and around the city of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and "El Cantante," starring
her husband as Puerto Rican salsa singer Hector Lavoe. That is one that I
have to see, Marc as Hector, I know both and this should be one to see. I
will see them at the parade this year and will hopefully get the lowdown
ok... Back to Top

rehabbed Britney Spears celebrated the end her of
divorce battle with Kevin Federline. Britney who has not been seen
near a drink since going to rehab the last time in February partied at
Bridge Restaurant & Lounge. She stayed 30 minutes and left. She had
reached an accord with Kevin earlier about the divorce and the kids custody
which is 50/50 a shared custody. The divorce will become final soon.
At least the kids were not battling it out like some in the media, it was
great for them and the children.

Michael Jackson according to some false
reports was officially starting to do another tour. Starting in Las
Vegas, however Mikes people say that the whole thing was a fraud.
Invitations ere sent out in celebration for the "Live Forever" tour, at June
10th at Luxor hotel with a 2 hour meet and greet session after the
performance. That alone should have sent out radars, no artist is
going to do a meet and greet after a performance, they are usually mentally
and physically exhausted and rest before doing another event. After a
concert they usually go out to eat or go home/hotel to sleep in
contemplation of waking up in morning or in case of younger performers to go
out later after a cat nap. I would have known it was a fishy smell in the
house. Back to Top
The estate of the late Rick James is suing the
singer's former music publisher for allegedly continuing to enter into new
contracts, despite being told their services were no longer required. The
lawsuit, filed last week at the Los Angeles Superior Court, claims Brooklyn
Music Publishing is still collecting commissions from contracts agreed with
firms in Europe and refuses to hand over key copyright documents and
information to the estate and its new publisher, Wixen Music Publishing.
The James Ambrose Johnson Jr. 1999 Trust, using the singer's real name,
chose not to renew Brooklyn Music's contract after James' death in 2004. The
trust also accuses the former publishers of failing to give back master
recordings of the funk legend in addition to money received from foreign
sub-publishers, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The legal file states:
"These intentional acts of misconduct and conversion, wholly unauthorized by
the trust, have greatly interfered with the contractual relationship between
the trust and Wixen, and have made it difficult, impractical and, in certain
instances, impossible for Wixen to administer the compositions and to
collect revenue derived there from." The James Ambrose Johnson Jr. 1999
Trust is suing for unspecified damages and is seeking a permanent injunction
against Brooklyn Music Publishing to interfere in its business.

Tribeca festival, which opens its sixth
edition tomorrow and continues through May 5, has magnified its presence and
star power to such an extent that for New Yorkers, it's something of a
springtime go-to ritual. For those in the outer boroughs and on Long Island,
it's a good reason to get on the train. And not just to see movies.
Star-studded panel discussions, live music, a street fair, even a smattering
of X Games-style stunt biking. With all this going on, who needs movies?
Then again, if movies are all you're after at the Tribeca festival, you'll
find 159 features and 85 short subjects to choose from, including 75 world
premieres, 32 North American premieres, 18 U.S. premieres and 20 New York
City premieres.
The Grand - Zak Penn, best known for
writing scripts for such superhero spectaculars as "X2," directs this mostly
improvisational pseudo-documentary about a high-stakes poker tournament in
which the stakes are the eponymous hotel-casino. Woody Harrelson is the
prohibitive favorite to save the day. Others drifting into view include
Dennis Farina, Cheryl Hines, Werner Herzog, Ray Romano and Gabe Kaplan.
Friday, 6 p.m. at Tribeca Performing Arts Center; Sunday 3:30 p.m and Monday
10 p.m., AMC Loews 34th Street; May 2, 9:30 p.m. and May 5, 8 p.m., AMC
Loews Kips Bay.
Lady Chatterley - Pascale Ferran's adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's
"second version" of his notorious story of unbridled passion comes to
America trailing hype and glory, including two Cesars (France's version of
the Oscars). Marina Hands won one of those awards for best actress as the
lady and Jean-Louis Coulloc'h is her gamekeeper-lover. Thursday, 8:30 p.m.
and Friday, 10:15 p.m. AMC Loews 34th Street; Sunday at 9:30 p.m. and next
Tuesday at 2:45 p.m., AMC Loews Kips Bay.
Blackout - Jerry LaMothe's feature sounds intriguing if only because
it's likely the first fictional film account spun from the 2003 blackout. It
also deals with a stretch of East Flatbush stricken with violence and
looting that August night. The high-powered cast includes Jeffrey Wright,
Melvin Van Peebles, Zoe Saldana and LaTanya Richardson. Saturday at 5 p.m.
at Pace University Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts; Monday at 10:30
p.m. Clearview Chelsea West; May 4 at 8:30 p.m. and May 6 at 5:30 p.m. at
AMC Loews Kips Bay.
2 Days in Paris - Julie Delpy, who can now be seen as Clifford
Irving's sultry lover in "The Hoax," wrote, directed, edited, produced and
composed the music for this romantic comedy in which she plays, well, a
French woman introducing American boyfriend Adam Goldberg to the City of
Light. Do not judge this too harshly in advance. Remember that this was the
woman who helped Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke write "Before Sunset."
Thursday at 7 p.m. at Clearview Chelsea West, Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at AMC
Loews Kips Bay, May 3 at 9:30 p.m. at AMC Loews 72nd Street East.
Gardener of Eden - "Entourage's" Kevin Connolly makes his feature
directing debut with this gritty Jersey-based thriller about a slacker
(Lukas Haas) whose going-nowhere-fast existence takes a sharp veer somewhere
when he inadvertently beats up a serial rapist and becomes a local hero.
Somehow you just know that's not the end of it. Giovanni Ribisi and Erika
Christensen co-star. Thursday at 9:30 p.m. Tribeca Performing Arts Center,
Saturday at 7:45 p.m. at AMC Loews 34th Street, next Tuesday at 4 p.m. at
AMC Loews Village VII, May 2 at 10 p.m. and May 4, 9 p.m. at AMC Loews Kips

I Have Never Forgotten You: The Life and Legacy of Simon Wiesenthal -
Another Holocaust documentary? Much, much more. Richard Trank's portrait of
the late self-styled Nazi hunter who brought Adolf Eichmann to justice is a
riveting account of a man possessed, and an irrefutable response to the
question of why we must remember. The eloquent narrator's voice belongs to
Nicole Kidman, while the indelible testimony comes courtesy of the
indefatigable Wiesenthal himself. Sunday at 5 p.m., Pace, May 3 at 7 p.m.
