I am legend,
was a great movie and had a nice degree of action and story. As a
third attempt at the franchise, it is a great movie. It was a A-
performance. and it was great for the actor and audience.
I cannot
wait for the DVD to see what else was left out. In 'I AM LEGEND', Will
Smith joins the ranks of Vincent Price (in 1964's 'THE LAST MAN ON EARTH') and
Charlton Heston (in 1971's 'OMEGA MAN') as the star of an adaptation of
Richard Matheson's 1954 novel of the same name. Often surprising in its
focus on loneliness and loss, this thoughtful, eerie, and restrained sci-fi
horror film provides a parade of startling visuals, but never allows special
effects to overcome the human element. Smith, in a strong performance very
different from his usual persona, is Robert Neville, the lone survivor in a
New York City where streets are overgrown and deer gambol among deserted
automobiles. Following an epidemic, the Earth's population has been turned
into an army of nocturnal zombies. Immune to the virus, military scientist
Neville searches for a cure in his Washington Square townhouse. Haunted by
visions of his family leaving quarantined Manhattan two years prior, he
drives through the city with his German Shepherd, Sam, by day and barricades
his home from the monsters nightly. But when Anna (Alice Braga)--another
immune stranger-finds him, they will have to fight the onslaught twice as
hard. This film was suspense filled and full of surprises. It
was filled with great action and was a suspense thriller. Make sure to
pick this up on video when it comes out. A great date movie.
Mad Money:After her husband loses his job, upper-crust
housewife Bridget Cardigan (Diane Keaton) is forced to take a job as a
janitor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Mo. Spotting a weakness
in the bank's security system, Bridget convinces her two new friends Nina
(Queen Latifah) and Jackie (Katie Holmes) to help her steal a fortune in
worn-out bills that have been earmarked for destruction. It was a great movie, with a great cast. This is a
comedy that is fun, bouncy and a feel good movie. It was a
B
performance, but with the Queen and Katie Holmes plus Diane Keaton and Ted
Danson supporting, it was fun, and quite a family movie. It may be a
bank heist, but the fun is getting there. Katie, Queen & and Diane did
a great job, I liked the movie, it could have been more but it had a twist
that was great. A great family movie, something to talk about
afterwards. Katie was good as the ditsy girl, and Latifah was great as the
Mom with everything to lose.
Cloverfield: On the eve of his departure for
Japan, Rob (Michael Stahl-David) sees his going-away party as an opportunity
to confess unresolved feelings and tie up loose ends. His agenda
takes
an unexpected turn when a jolt shakes the revelers. The crowd quiets down to
watch news reports of an earthquake, then rushes to the roof to assess the
damage. A fireball explodes on the distant horizon. A power failure follows.
Confusion gives way to panic as the partygoers stumble through the blackout
and into the streets. Amid the human screams and one inhuman roar, Rob and
his friends must traverse a landscape that has changed, overtaken by
something otherworldly, terrifying, monstrous monsters and it is a battle to
do what must be done. This was first person camera
opera, that at times got annoying. It gave a camcorders view.
It does a great job of a viewers
perspective/camera mans and it is a good movie. The cameraman, got on
my nerve, but hey it gives some real insight into what could happen if...
But it does bring home one thing, do not give your camera to a moron to film
things that are important to you. I gave this a B- but it was a good movie,
it leaves you wishing for more... I do have one thing to say, it has been a
couple of days, but I do have to say that it was kind of reminiscent of Sept
11th for me. It was kind of hard for me at moments to watch the movie,
sometimes wanting to get out of the theatre, but was assured by looking
around that I was in the movies. I saw a lot of that in the several
theatres I visited. Since I am a New Yorker and it is based on NYC, it
was kind of hard to watch at first, it got better once I remembered that it
was just a movie. So I do warn New Yorkers, do prepare yourself before
watching. It was kind of ..... I have no words to describe, but it was
kind of hard to watch at first. Once I got over the initial feeling,
it was a good movie. That is why it got a B-
for a rating. There is advisories that motion picture assoc. is putting out,
it has made several movie goers sick. So, I was not the only one, not
that it was scary, it just is a little jarring being a first person camera
action film.
27 Dresses: Jane is idealistic, romantic and
completely
selfless, a perennial bridesmaid whose own happy ending is nowhere in sight.
But when younger sister Tess captures the heart of Jane’s boss, with whom
she is secretly in love – Jane begins to reexamine her “always-a-bridesmaid
never a bride” lifestyle. Katherine Heigl, the girl just
married herself during the holidays, and this movie gave her some great
tips. The movie was great and hit home with many women, giving back
her comical side. She was great in this movie. I gave this a B+,
with Katherine as a perpetual bridesmaid, which is hilarious to say the
least.
The Bucket List:
Jack Nicholson and
Morgan Freeman head up this great feel good movie with two of tinsel towns
best. This movie is a feel good movie and great for the family.
A great thought, two men making a list of things to do before they die, and
doing them. A great hope for all, to live in the moment and do
something to make your life worth living. I gave this movie a B
and the audience loved it.
In the Name of
the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale;
Much like cult-favorites LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER
and
MORTAL KOMBAT, IN THE NAME OF THE KING: A DUNGEON SIEGE TALE is a
fantasy-adventure based on a popular video game series, Dungeon Siege. The
film follows the simple but heroic and fearless Farmer, portrayed by Jason
Statham (THE TRANSPORTER, THE ITALIAN JOB), as he gets caught up in the
brink-of-war tensions of King Konraid (Burt Reynolds), his back-stabbing
nephew Duke Fallow (Matthew Lillard), and the evil wizard, Gallian (Ray
Liotta). The film features similar plot-points to the critically acclaimed
THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy (2001-2003), including a sinister beastly army
parallel to LOTR’s orcs of Mordor, called the Krugs, responsible for killing
members of Farmer’s family and kidnapping his wife, Solana (Claire Forlani).
High- adventure follows, as Farmer, and his brother-in-law Bastian (Will
Sanderson) and friend Norick (Ron Perlman) pursue the Krugs, which lead them
to a vast underground lair of enslaved humans, orchestrated by Gallian, as
he seeks to create and rule a hellish underworld with magic and mysticism. A great movie, I was riveted watching this movie. I wanted to see
more, and I was not left wanting and the twists and turns made me want to
know more. This was a great movie because of the way it layed out,
slowly peeling like a onion and giving me the information and spooning it to
the audience in a non-fantastic way. I loved it, and gave the movie a
A.
Stakeman was a great leading man and the cast was fantastic, a great family
movie..
One Missed Call:
When
Beth Raymond (Shannyn Sossamon) witnesses the deaths of two friends, she
knows there is more at work than just a tragic coincidence; days before they
die, both victims hear their terrifying final moments on cell
phones. Though the police think Beth is crazy, detective Jack Andrews (Ed
Burns), believes her. Together the pair try to unravel the mystery behind
the horrifying messages before their own phone numbers come up. A movie that was
suspense filled. I sat through this movie engaged. It was another
movie that was a Asian Movie first. I liked it,
you will too, not too gory, it has moments, but it is a movie to check out
though. The premise is great, of course the black girl dies first to
start things off, but it was great to follow and it was laid down correctly.
Things falling into place, and the opportunity for more. It is great date
movie, or with the gals/guys out on a Friday-Saturday night. I gave this
movie a B
for the movie that it is.
Aliens Vs
Predator - Requiem:A great
next step for the Aliens and Predator film case. The Aliens Vs
Predator Movie did leave all wanting to know what happened next. Well,
this takes up right after that one.
Town Residents (Steven Pasquale, Reiko Aylesworth, John Ortiz) of Gunnison,
Colorado, are caught up in the crossfire when two deadly extraterrestrial
species bring
their longstanding conflict to Earth. On the one side,
nearly indestructible Aliens; on the other, a lone Predator whose mission is
to wipe out all traces of the Alien infestation from Earth, no matter
who gets in the way. I was filled with
my gore score
card. Wanting to see more with this movie. I wanted to extend
the ending but it was good, and for all that I talked to after the movie,
loved it. I gave this a B+ for this
follow-up. I was glad to finally know what happened with the first movie,
and this requiem was filling. A great date movie, a great movie to see with
friends.
The Great
Debater: This is a great
movie, a lot of people remembered the time. There was a lot of talking
after this movie and it was great. I went from neighborhood to
neighborhood to check out reactions from film goers. Some did not know
about the movie and liked it, some knew of the history and some remembered
the story and the time and was glad that stories like this one was told and
will be remembered. It was great to see a great cast doing such a great job,
my parents even chimed in to say that they loved it. They rated the movie
since they went with me in Florida, NYC, and D.C. I saw it a total of
12 times with various people but the parental's gave it a
A
for the best picture they had seen last year. We went to the premiere
and I forgot to put this in till now. Sorry.. Denzel Washington directs and
stars in this uplifting drama based on a true story about a small East Texas
all-black college in 1935 that rises to the top of the nation's debate teams
in a duel against Harvard. A poet and debating coach at Wiley College

Alvin and the
Chipmunks: Another adaptation of the
Chipmunks franchise. Singing, bungling and cute chipmunks.
This live-action/computer-animated update of Ross Bagdasarian's
squeaky-voiced cartoon characters finds the chipmunks (in CGI form)
transported from their woodland habitat to the city, where they wind up in
the home of Dave Seville (Jason Lee). Dave, a down-on-his-luck songwriter,
realizes the potential of a singing chipmunk pop act, and becomes an
unlikely mentor/father figure to feisty Alvin, brainy Simon, and dopey
Theodore. Meanwhile, the threesome causes chaos in his life, leading to
plenty of fun, frenetic scenarios. When a devious record executive (David
Cross) enters the picture, however, Alvin and the Chipmunks must deal with
both the trappings of fame and their loyalty to the amiable, hapless Dave. A great
family movie to take the kids to. They are not our old chipmunks but
then again, they are... You will all enjoy this film, it is ageless
and timeless as these new-old chipmunks are great for the kids.
First Sunday:
A movie that has a all star cast, Ice Cube,
Tracey
Morgan were hilarious. This is a feel good movie, a great family movie
filled with laughter, crying, searching, wanting and a great cast to pull
off a great movie. I sat there thinking that it would be a comedy, full of
stupid pranks but it was semi-comical, semi-serious. It was a
masterpiece of sorts, and I gave it a
A, for it
entertained me in many ways, and touched my soul in several ways. A great
date movie.. The movie is about two wayward men, one who needs
guidance, one who just gets into trouble by listening to the wrong people.
Check out their great website.. for exclusives and downloads and
extras.. David E. Talbert makes his directorial debut with this comedy about
Durell (Ice Cube) and LeeJohn (Tracy Morgan), childhood friends with a knack
for getting into trouble. Despite his continual bad decisions, Durell gets
one thing right: he's a good father to his adolescent son. When he learns
that the boy's mother, his ex-girlfriend, Omunique (Regina Hall), needs
$17,000 to buy her beauty shop or she’ll leave Baltimore and move to
Atlanta, he’s determined to get her the money to keep his son in his life.
Meanwhile, LeeJohn needs big money fast to pay off some bad guys. Durell and
LeeJohn decide that the collection plate of their local church holds the
answer to their money woes. But
their attempt to rob the church is foiled in progress: the money is already
missing, and the would-be burglars didn’t realize there would be people at
the church. Finding themselves with a group of parishioners and choir
members at their mercy, Durell and LeeJohn have to make some decisions about
exactly what kind of men they want to be. FIRST SUNDAY also makes a
statement about the role of the church in urban areas and its importance
within the community.
Meet the
Spartans: I was ready to see
this movie, but was let down
in a way. Do not get me Wrong, it is a ok movie but could have been
way better. The warriors of 300 might have been able to hold their own--at
least for awhile--against an army of thousands, but can they defend
themselves against this satire? From the minds behind EPIC MOVIE, MEET THE
SPARTANS tackles everything from the action movie to YOU GOT SERVED to
Britney Spears. It is a spoof film, but the movie just could have been
done better. I gave this a
C+, filled
with goofs on spoofs. I actually liked the ending, while the credits
was rolling, you will laugh your butt off. It is filled with some gut
wrenching 'Oh No You
Didn't!!' gasps around the theatre but it is enjoyable. Oh and some
would just say that was just wrong but funny. so go see it ok. Oh yet, see
it when it come out on video, on sale, I saw it for $5 and still want half
back but it was ok.
