This Saturday is the Annual German-American Steuben
Parade. It
starts at 12pm on September 20th, it will be held on 5th
Avenue and 63rd street in NYC. So
come and taste the German fare and drink German beer and
see, participate in German Dances and waltzes. Fun for the
family and interesting. It started in 1957. and is a
mainstay in NYC.
This week is great, if you are in NYC this
particular week and a half is the 81st annual feast of San
Genero. Which is a great feast by the way. It used
to be run by lets say dubious
characters
but nice nonetheless. Rudy G. cleaned up the festival and
gave it to other less inclined organizers. It is a clean
operation and a fun time to check out the Italian culture
and the Catholic culture. It is running in little Italy
and will be finished on the 21st. The Feast is easily accessible by
public transportation.

Movies opening this week
Sorry we have been a little behind with the new movies openings but not
with the thoughts on the hot new movies. We looked
at
several in September. So check them out.
Ghost Town:
It is about a character named Bertram Pincus is a man whose people skills
leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is
miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he
now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want
something from him, particularly Frank Herlihy, who pesters him into
breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen. That puts Pincus
squarely in the middle of a triangle, with spirited results.
Eagle Eye:
This is a movie that is being pushed, but seems one that most want to see.
It is going to be a thriller movie and looks to be filled with action. The
synopsis goes like this: Jerry Shaw and Rachel Holloman are two strangers
thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never
met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into
a series of increasingly dangerous situations, & using the technology of
everyday life to track and control their every move. As the situation
escalates, these two ordinary people become the country's most wanted
fugitives, who must work together to discover what is really happening and
more importantly, why? Release Date: September 26th, 2008
The Women:
This is the hot new movie ladies and it is a feel good flick. In New York
City's modern whirl of fashion and publishing,
Mary Haines seems to have it all--a beautiful country home, a rich
financier husband, an adorable 11-year-old daughter and a part-time career
creating designs for her father's venerable clothing company. Her best
friend, Sylvie Fowler, leads another enviable life, as a happily single
editor of a prominent fashion magazine, a possessor of a huge closet of
designer clothes and a revered arbiter of taste and style poised on New
York's cutting edge. But when Mary's husband enters into an affair with
Crystal Allen, a sultry "spritzer girl" lurking behind the Saks Fifth
Avenue perfume counter, all hell breaks loose. Mary and Sylvie's
relationship is tested to the breaking point while their tight-knit circle
of friends, including mega-mommy Edie Cohen and author Alex Fisher, all
start to question their own friendships and romantic relationships as
well. Release Date: September 12th, 2008
On DVD Now
Jumper: Doug Liman (MR. AND MRS. SMITH) directs this adaptation of Steven
Gould's novels about people called "jumpers" who can transport themselves
through space and time. This science-fiction adventure stars Jamie Bell
(KING KONG), Hayden Christensen (STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE
SITH), and Samuel L. Jackson.
Fools Gold: After starring in the romantic comedy hit HOW TO LOSE A GUY
IN 10 DAYS, Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson up the action ante for
this adventure film. In this action-comedy hybrid, the pair plays a
divorced couple who reunite to search for sunken treasure. Andy Tennant
(HITCH, SWEET HOME ALABAMA) directs a cast that also includes Donald
Sutherland, Ewen Bremner, and Ray Winstone.
Definitely, Maybe: Ryan Reynolds stars as Will Hayes, a 30-something
Manhattan dad in the midst of a divorce when his 10-year-old daughter,
Maya (Abigail Breslin), starts to question him about his life before
marriage. Maya wants to know absolutely everything about how her parents
met and fell in love. Will's story begins in 1992, as a young, starry-eyed
aspiring politician who moves to New York from Wisconsin in order to work
on the presidential campaign. For Maya, Will relives his past as an
idealistic young man learning the ins and outs of big city politics, and
recounts the history of his romantic relationships with three very
different women. Will hopelessly attempts a "gentler" version of his story
for his daughter and changes the names so Maya has to guess who is the
woman her father finally married. Is her mother Will's college sweetheart,
the dependable girl next door Emily (Elizabeth Banks)? Is she his longtime
best friend and confidante, the apolitical April (Isla Fisher)? Or is she
the free-spirited but ambitious journalist Summer (Rachel Weisz)? As Maya
puts together the pieces of her dad's romantic puzzle, she begins to
understand that love is not so simple or easy. And as Will tells her his
tale, Maya helps him to understand that it's definitely never too late to
go back...and maybe even possible to find a happy ending.
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins: Leading an all-star comedy cast, Martin
Lawrence is talk-show sensation RJ Stevens, who left behind his modest
Southern upbringing and family name to transform into a self-help guru
dispensing his "Team of Me" philosophy to millions of adoring fans. With a
reality-TV-star fiancée and money to burn, there's no piece of the
Hollywood dream RJ hasn't achieved. After his parents request that he come
home for their 50th wedding anniversary, the TV host packs up his
10-year-old son and diva bride-to-be and heads back to Georgia. It's a
chance to prove to his family that he's no longer the awkward kid they
relentlessly picked on. At least, that's the plan... But when his crazy,
lovable family calls him on his big-city attitude and challenges him at
every turn, RJ is forced to take a hard look at the man he's become. He
may be a superstar in L.A., but he's just one of the guys in Dry Springs
as folks say Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins.
Bordertown: Since 1993, almost 400 women have been murdered in Juarez,
Mexico, a factory town that is home to people who toil away at
“maquiladoras” (border factories) making cheap consumer goods for the US
market. BORDERTOWN tells the story of Lauren Fredricks (Jennifer Lopez),
an ambitious newspaper reporter, who has been sent to Juarez by her editor
(Martin Sheen) to investigate what has happened to these hundreds of women
and how the local police and authorities have been covering up the brutal
rapes and murders. Lauren looks up her former colleague (and lover)
Alfonso Diaz (Antonio Banderas), who now runs the local paper, and they
soon uncover one of the hottest stories of the year when they come across
the only known survivor of one of these mysterious attacks. The victim is
reluctant to speak, but Lauren convinces her to break the silence; yet the
real danger is not the murder, but the larger forces who don’t want the
story told. It went directly to DVD though, but good to check out.
I Could Never Be Your Woman: In this offbeat romantic comedy, Tracey
Ullman plays Mother Nature, cheerfully interfering with the lives of a
woman (Michelle Pfeiffer) who falls for a younger man (Paul Rudd), while
her daughter (Saoirse Ronan) struggles with her own romantic issues.
Straight to DVD also.

Building upon the foundation of her
mega-successful, super-exclusive Supper Club in London, Tamsin Lonsdale is
bringing her Sloane Ranger brand of traveling dinner parties stateside,
for the It-makers of New York City. (Plans are under way for expansion
globally, targeting Dubai, India, Hong Kong and Los Angeles.) "Our aim is
to think about what New Yorkers want before they know it," she says of the
club, which will cost applicants $750 for local membership and $1,000 for
international (London and New York), not including the cost of the dinners
themselves. "Once you are part of this exclusive supper club, you're going
to meet the people I have handpicked, and I'm going to be hosting every
dinner." "She will give you access to all the places where you might not
be able to get into on your own," explains Joey Jalleo, an event producer
behind the launch party being held tonight at the National Arts Club.
"It's like Willy Wonka's golden ticket. You've got New York at your
fingertips." In London, the Supper Club boasts 1,000 members with more
than 300 on the waiting list - and an acceptance rate of 25 percent. The
goal for New York? To make it even more exclusive, accepting just one in
five applicants. The current membership is close to 300. One major
difference: While the London Supper Club began as a dinner-dating scene
for well-heeled singles, the New York Supper Club is focused almost
entirely on networking. There's even an online component where you can
check other members' profiles. TAMSIN Lonsdale, the 29-year-old British
socialite, daughter of fashion guru Tony Lonsdale and one-time supermodel
Chekkie Maskell. "We want to introduce them to like-minded people."
Lonsdale didn't really break out until she used her sister's fame to help
piggyback into the limelight. "It happened when her sister Chloe launched
her jeans company, Made in Heaven. At the time, they both became these two
powerful sisters. They became the sister It girls, the Sykes sisters of
London, basically." After submitting your application to the
supper club newyork.com,
know that you will be vetted directly by Lonsdale with a requirement that
prospective applicants must be referred by two existing members, which
seems kind of tough but some do it. This is no relation to our old Supper
Club in NY, which was the hottest spot in NY, for the House crowd.
The new i-Phone is having its share of problems. If
you
have this marvelous hunk of junk and had downloaded programs you will see
as the phone updated that you lost some of the free programs and such.
AT&T, and Apple implemented some bugs to erase those programs from your
phone never to return. So it was not you, it was them saying you must pay
them for everything with the phone. It is amazing that they would
have done such a thing, after charging so much for the phone but who has
the money and spent it, lose it quickly. I refused to get the phone myself
because I never trust Apple, they do not share well with others and have
been notorious for making there wares not compatible with others.
Thereby making you buy software and hardware through them. Hey it is
the American way, to pay through the nose with them. In a good note
however, consumers fought them in court and they are allowing some
companies to work on the i-phone and make programs for them coming up in
Jan. So builders can make programs for their phones, programming the
units from that time on.

The show "In The Heights" is a Latin multi-cultural drama about life in
the Washington Heights
of
NYC. It is a great show and filled with lots of Flavor. A
must-see for young-older theatre goers, it is electrifying and fun.
A little rapping, singing, head bopping fun for the family, all will
appreciate the warm feeling this play gives. Lin-Manuel Miranda is
the star of this show and gives you a look into life. Back when Rent
took The Street by storm, the East Village was a hotbed of youth and
counterculture. Now that you can't find a small studio apartment there for
less than $2,000 per month, other areas of town are contending for the
title of hipster haven - and though Brooklyn is the clear frontrunner, the
upper reaches of Manhattan island are now home to many of the striving
classes. Set there, this (actually quite wholesome) new tuner looks to the
deeper roots of the neighborhood, far, far to the south, Latin America
ways, and the largely Latino culture that has emerged north of Harlem.Get Tickets Now (discount

Actor Christopher Reeve
has died at the age of 52 in a New York hospital.
Reeve
was best known for his role in the successful Superman films of the 1970s
and 1980s, where he brought the comic book hero to life. An amazing
man whose accomplishments are far reaching and felt even today in his
name, his wife carries on his legacy.
He had been suffering
from an infection as a result of a pressure wound and died on Sunday, his
publicist said. He suffered a cardiac arrest at his New York home and
slipped into a coma, Wesley Combs added. Reeve was paralyzed in 1995 when
he broke his neck after being thrown from a horse. He later became an
advocate for spinal cord injury research. In recent years, he had regained
sensation in some parts of his body. His legacy lives on in his amazing
works that he started with his wife. Superman's legacy thru many new
movies and projects that have followed the actors death.
Rodney Dangerfield died this morning Oct. 6, 2005. He came out of the
coma and passed away soon after. He will be missed, his great style and
loving type of monikers, "I don't get no Respect".
Dead Beat Diddy?
P Diddy in Trouble again, his Ex Wife says he does not pay child
support, the court awarded about $35,000 a month, but the twins are just
so cute, so what can you do.
Mark Anthony
attended a dinner with his wife. The picture to right is
Jennifer Lopez who was a presenter at the
awards ceremony. The dinner was a treat to women who make it
in small business and Lopez was the awardees to a woman who started her
own business. He and his wife finally said they are having twins.
The rumors are true, confirmed by no less a source than her father:
Jennifer Lopez is expecting twins and got them. The waiting is over finally. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's newborn
twins are named Max and Emme.
It was only a matter of time before

called the B'Phone, which is a another version of the Samsung Upstage. The
burgundy-and-gold mobile device contains preloaded music videos and
pictures of the songbird, plus an unreleased tune that B performed when
she was 10 years old. The phone, which is available to Sprint customers,
will be sold for $99 exclusively at select Wal-Mart stores. I can

For the sixth nonconsecutive week, Soulja Boy's
"Crank That (Soulja Boy)" is the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100

featuring OneRepublic creeps up to No. 3 on the strength of 133,000

Rick James the Performer of Freakiness has passed away:
Rick James died in his sleep at his home near Universal
City, CA. He was 56. An autopsy has failed to determine the singer's cause
of death. James, who was born in Buffalo, N.Y., will be buried Saturday
in his hometown following a funeral service. He is survived by three
children and two grandchildren. Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr., Chaka
Kahn, Jamie Foxx, Jermaine Jackson and Teena Marie were among the 1,200 or
so family, friends and fans attending Thursday’s memorial service for Rick
James. The ceremony, held at the Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood Hills,
featured a speech by Minister Louis Farrakhan as well as a musical
performance by Stevie Wonder. (pic of Coffin by Miltron Bailey.com)
Ray Charles
Passed away
He passed away from acute live disease. He died at at
the age of 73. The 12-time Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
winner took the suffering and sadness of the blues and combined it with
the rousing energy of gospel to invent a new genre called soul music, with
hits like "I Got a Woman" and "A Fool For You." He took his personal
struggles -- watching his brother drown at the age of 5, losing his sight
to glaucoma when he was 7, becoming an orphan by 15, and funneled them
into touching songs like "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "Georgia on My
Mind."
In New York, here comes the Queen,
Mary that is!
Nothing
like waiting for a long time for something spectacular. I was waiting for
the arrival of the Queen Mary and it was the longest time I ever spent
(just kidding). It was a beautiful ship that was supposed to dock I was
told at 07:40 in the morning but was more like after 9am and it was worth
it. The hot chocolate did run out and the police and harbor patrol did
make it hectic but all in all it was a nice berth. It reminded me of the
Navy and having to through the big lines to the pier to have the ship
moored. I did like to see it instead of do it this time. And that ship
was so much bigger than some of the ones I have been on. It was one of
the biggest cruise ships ever built.
After encountering rough seas and gale force winds in
the North Atlantic that definitely
rocked the boat and sent plates flying, the world's most expensive
passenger ship, Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2, sailed under the Verrazano
Bridge this morning around 6:15, passed the Statue of Liberty about 7 and
docked at Pier 92 in the Hudson River next to the Intrepid.
The anxiously awaited ocean liner -- which is so maneuverable it doesn't
need the help of tugboats to dock -- was greeted by fireboats spraying
water, crowds of onlookers and
dignitaries,
including Mayor Michael Bloomberg, city tourism officials and Micky Arison,
chief executive of Carnival Corp. Carnival announced it would build the
vessel in June, 1998, one month after it bought Cunard.
By several accounts the maiden westbound voyage from Southampton, England,
carrying 2,600 passengers and 1,300 crew members, has been a trip to
remember. "Yes, they have hit some weather," Cunard president Pamela
Conover said yesterday from the solid footing of the Waldorf-Astoria
Hotel.
The ship's speed was slowed this week because of heavy waves and storms,
but as the skies got calmer and the fog lifted, the 1,132-foot long ship
was cruising at 29 knots yesterday, she said. The Queen Mary 2, for now
the longest, widest and tallest passenger ship, is built for
unpredictable seas. "It has shown to be able to come through it and still
be on time. This is a positive thing," Conover said to the New York
Newsday.
