WORD ON THE STREET!
Attention NYCHA
Residents and Friends!
If you, family or friends live in a
NYCHA
housing complex
there are some things you need to be aware of.
The City of New York intends to mandate that public housing residents volunteer
8 hours a month to community service, or their households could face eviction!
It's time for the passive residents of NYC to stand up for their rights, and
protest this type of action!
You can believe this won't necessarily apply to those of the "chosen ethnic
group" but it will impact, Blacks and Latinos.
There is an ongoing effort to displace residents in NYC Housing. Some of the
major developers in the City have been eyeing these complexes. They are along
major thoroughfares, have elevator buildings, commanding views, and on site
parking. This but one of the ways they plan on riding themselves of the people
who are standing in the way of their seizing these properties!
While many residents are to busy partying and getting high, some will find
themselves on the street because they think public housing is a sure thing and
guaranteed for life. This isn't true!
NYCHA already enforces evicting families if one member of the household is
convicted of selling or possession of drugs. Since this was implemented not one
voice has had the media's attention to address how this ruling is racist in
nature. And needless to say the attitude from the residents is "What can we
do!" or "We can't do anything!" Nothing is farther from the truth!
Well, this time the NYC Public Housing Resident Alliance, Public Housing
Residents of The Lower East Side (PHROLES),
Legal Aid Society, and the Community Service Society have planned a protest and
you would want to let your voices be heard!
